Why would he get ridiculed for losing to a genius? :?

First of all, based on the posts on ESB sometimes, he would be ridiculed if he BEAT Jones.

    And Dawson.

    And both Klitschkos.

But more specifically, he would be ridiculed because the expectation is that he will win as Roy is seen by some as 'completely shot.'

Both fighters may be past their primes, but Calzaghe is far closer to his prime than Jones is to his.

Here's the problem with the Jones-Calzaghe bout:

Joe himself said in Boxing Monthly magazine in 2006 and in his own autobiography, No Ordinary Joe, written in 2007, that he wouldn't fight Jones because he was already "SHOT" (that's a verbatim quote) at the time when he lost to Tarver & Johnson in '04-'05.

You may allow yourself to be kidded by Joe that this is somehow now a legitimate contest, now that he fancies tricking everyone so he can get a big payday, and you may also allow the opinions and desires of a few deluded American fans who haven't seen Jones's last 6 fights on this forum to further legitimize this sorry event - but that doesn't change what it is in reality - the reality is that Joe was right (and still knows it now), Jones is not a little past-prime, he is SHOT to pieces.

And please do not try the tired old "everyone will say who was Dawson after Joe beats him" routine to downplay it when Joe strolls off into the sunset with a bag of cash he got for beating up a shot fighter without facing the young up-and-comer in his division, because 'who he has fought' is right there on his resume: Antonio Tarver, Glen Johnson, Eric Harding, Tomasz Adamek. Some may even argue his best wins are a match for Calzaghe's already....

Joe can win with all folks, same as everyone. He can fight the best opponents available. He hasn't done that nearly enough in his 11 year world championship career. That is the only reason he isn't winning with all folks.

This thread is almost making me want to see Jones win just to destroy PACFAN84's credibility forever...

Jones didn't look very good either, regardless of Max Kellerman's orgasms.

Tito was ****ing hitting Jones with a jab off the hook thru the gloves with frequency. Even double jabs off the hook, thru the gloves, with frequency. That alone shows you how Jones's reflexes aren't what they were.

Jones used to barely get touched against world class light-heavyweight contenders, not smaller guys who hadn't fought in 3 years.

I bet there are more than a few people on here hoping that!

If RJJ won I would be so hyper with ecstasy I don't know if I could sober up or calm down enough to type accurately for a week, but I would definitely find time to have a thread that is basically a pitiful and grovelling apology to Roy and to everyone I have gone on at about how shot he is!!! But even then that wouldn't salvage my credibility!!

Good job there's ****ing zero chance of it happening then. :smoke

But then he'll have ammo to do a bunch of more threads criticizing Calzaghe.

Hopefully Jones wins, but I doubt it.

Seems like you don't have the ability to differentiate a prime fighter from one who's closer to retirement... Or perhaps you just haven't seen Jones fight in his prime to see how amazing he was. Or if you have, and you've seen his last few fights and THINK Jones is the same...then there's nothing else to be said to you.

If Jones wins, I won't write a single word criticizing Calzaghe about that fight - as it simply won't be necessary.

I will probably write billions on Jones though, and how wrong I was and what a genius he is.

I am a fan first, a critic second.

If Jones wins there is a very real chance I might explode with joy, leaving my flatmates scraping pieces of PACFAN off the walls for weeks.
