Calzaghe would get slaughtered. You need to look at his style to see it. Forget about resumes and statistics. Same if you put him in with Toney. Just look at the clash of styles. Toney would make him look stupid imo. Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Michael Spinks, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad would beat him fairly easy.
bailey, Nobody who struggles with Reid is beating Spinks EASILY. Lou Del Valle wasn't a bad fighter, and he was a southpaw and a former sparring partner of Roy. I wouldn't say Roy struggled with Griffin, and he was ready to go before the DQ. Also, we saw what happened in the rematch. Toney was fortunate in some stay busy fights. He was just going through the motions. But he'd also had a great resume at MW, and he'd knocked out Littles before fighting Roy. Nobody beat him as easily as Roy did. But we're going off topic here. They only stayed a few years. Joe stayed for 14 years. He could possibly have beaten Spinks, but it's a gross exaggeration to say he'd beat those 80's guys easily.
Jones' win over Toney was one of the most impressive things I have ever witnessed in boxing. Calzaghe has no performance where he looks that damn good over such a quality fighter. Roy was being compared to the very best ever after that fight.
Moorer's run at 175 was overrated. He had an impressive record but faced weak opposition. His best opponent was probably Leslie Stewart, and Moorer looked lousy for much of the fight. Moorer would probably just be a contender at 175 if he were born 8 to 10 years earlier, or just held a title for not too long. There's no way I'd pick him over Qawi and especially Spinks.
In this thread JAB5239 tried to prove Joe Calzaghe is inferior to the African-American boxers of the 1980s.
