one main difference is jmm has alot of different fighters he can challenge that can add to his legacy, althougth i agree the jones fight was abit of a waste of time he was the big name of 160-175 for the last 10 years so his name on calzaghe's resume looks good shor or not.
You say calzaghe could challenge some other fighters but who is out there really, dawson (****ing overated, pretty much lot to johnson), obviously it is a better fight than jones but he isn't a big name and unless joe beats him and dawson goes on and does well it isn't improving his resume much. Johnson, tarver and winky are all as past it as jones and hopkins would have no chance if he fought joe in the uk as he wouldn't be allowed to clinch and hold like he was in the us.

God give me strength! So being a champion of the world, one of the top five fighters in your division out of thousands worldwide makes you merely "decent".

/debate I think I'll try and find a more sensible thread.

    So what?
Everyone makes bad picks...nobody died because I got this one wrong  This thread isn't about who I picked to win, it's about Joe's fans expecting to get credit for beating Roy Jones, when he didn't....he beat what's left of Roy Jones. Similar to Berbick beating Ali, or HOlmes beating Ali, or Tyson beating Holmes, or Morrisson and Briggs beating Foreman :deal

you put words in my mouth pacfan, you said you wouldn't be loving it and celebrating afterwards. i said i enjoyed the fight. bit of a liberty on my words taken there. i like boxing, i stayed up til quarter past ******* six for it. now you're telling me i should have moping about, crying for a fallen champion . maybe i should have beaten up my mrs or gone and bought a calzaghe dart board ??

Whatever it is, I couldn't care less.

You left the little credibility you had at the door when you picked Jones.

Learn how to analyse the easiest possible fight and then move onto the more difficult topics such as resume :yep

Although we try to be as objective as we can when picking fights, I think its a bit hard not to get caught up in some hype, like believing Pacman actually has a chance against Oscar, or that Roy had a chance against Hopkins. I actually thought myself that he might have a chance, although he was CLEARLY way past his prime, and alzaghe is still basically in his. Joe beat a name thats all, that win wasnt great because he was so far past his prime

I hear you homie. I see many of the "Fanatics" coming out to defend Joe like a swarm of african bees and you had to know you were going to get leant into by these posters.

But honestly..........most of Joe's respect wasn't earned through his best career wins. Anyone or any true boxing fan would understand this b/c for a GREAT as Joe is his resume is just very good or very respectable.

I've said this time and time again that I don't think Joe's talent and skill level matches the resume he presently holds...even after beating Roy and Nard based on the fact that he faught the present day version of both men after finally deciding to come to the US to test his skills. IT has been long overdue and although he did win it's quickly put into persepctive by most boxing fans.

Kessler is the only PRIME opponent that is very good but just shy of ELITE level that are reserved for guys like Joe, Nard or PAC. And if Kessler gets better and gets some good wins that may have more meaning on Joe's resume in the future.

His opposition outwith Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins and possibly Mitchell was a mixture of the decent, the mediocre, and the absolutely dire. IMO.

I agree with the OP about Calzaghe, but you can't deny that Americans hype up their fighters much more readily. Pavlik was revered, hailed as a saviour and told he had made it right to the top - and what did he do for all this? He beat Jermain Taylor.

But you said earlier in this thread that Calzaghe was rightfully being praised for the win, didn't you? I do not agree. I think he deserved praise and credit for Kessler for example, but not this. If Pac took a fight with Morales now and humbled him, I would not look too kindly on it, same way as I don't with the celebrity boxing farce that was Calzaghe v Jones. There is no honour or glory in beating up a shot fighter, and toying with him as you do. None whatsoever.

true of most fighters. yeah he could have fought more big names but everyone fights **** fighters at some point. your darling roy jones included. biased crap. if you'd just say he could have more big names fine, but you have to go about the **** ones, like he's the only one who's done it.every fighter has **** names on his record .

****....you were better than me with this respect b/c I went with my "Gut feeling" that Roy would some how put on "One last great preformance" from a living legend. :patsch But deep down I always said "Locgically" Joe would beat Jones. Good think I didn't bet any $$$:bart

    Whatever dude....

And I've already stated many times I didn't pick Jones until the very end and have said I got caught up in the hype and picked on emotion. Who gives a ****? :patsch Go find every ****ing guy who picked Mike Tyson to beat Lennox Lewis. Tell them because they picked Tyson that Lewis should get full credit of having Tyson's name on his resume :deal And then tell them they have no credibility because they picked him.

You are so ignorant and slow-minded you don't even realize you are thinking in a spin-cycle of logic.

    1. This thread is about Calzaghe not deserving full credit for beating Jones, because Jones was shot.
    2. You explode in here and say I can't say that because I picked Jones

    3. You then say I lost my credibility for picking Jones.

So I ask you this: Why should Calzaghe deserve any credit at all for beating a fighter who anybody gave a shot of victory to should lose all their credibility...meaning the guy had no real chance?????
