Look at Calzaghe-Viet II and tell me Calzaghe doesn't have exceptional boxing skills.

In this fight he uses his footwork, picks his shots and dominates.

Roy Jones, even at 39 years of age, is no Mario Veit.

He controlled the distance pretty well for 24 rounds against BHOP, he can't be that bad. Winky struggled with his movement a lot as well.

 You do know he controlled the distance with his jab right. There are two things that control distance. Footwork and jab. And to say winky struggled with his movement is borderline ******ed b/c he was up in his face almost the entire fight. Same with Ouma. And his lack of foot work is what made him not let his hands go with spinks as he didnt want to look silly missing. He is very athletic but he is not a fighter with good footwork. Those are two different things.

I mean come the hell on. JT is the worst comparison in terms of footwork. His stance is way too wide and he gets wild and sloppy all the time. He DRAGS his front foot when backing up and drags the back foot coming forward. He punches from his upper body rather then using his legs. Thats why he has power but does not get knockouts. If he used good footwork he would be a hell of a lot better as a fighter.

for real Calzaghe has some solid boxing skills but he is not the general that Hopkins is. Neither is Roy Jones though.

As Steward said when he took over Taylor (and he hasnt changed) he's basically a raw fighter - he isnt textbook but hes very quick athletic and co-ordinated; the result is the same; he moves well.

Are you actually laughing hysterically when you post these emoticons?

Anyway, I think you are confused about what footwork actually is. You don't see a lot of fighters leaping about like Muhammad Ali for the very good reason that they look like a ****ing landed fishes gill, flapping about like an idiot about to get KTFO. Footwork is about balance, pressure, mobility in offence. "He could only rely on head movement and jab" - this is not a complete sentence, but I think you mean he could only rely on head movement and jab to avoid being punched? That is absolutley normal. Bernard Hopkins is currenlty taking a class on defencive boxing in The Ring magazine and you will not find anything about leaping out of the way of shots, even sidestepping is not really technical boxing. Legs have some involvement in slipping and ducking but what you are seeing Taylor do is basiclaly normal defencive boxing.

Taylor's positioning is weak sometimes - maybe that is what you mean and you just haven't expressed it properly - but Polymath was correct to call him "well co-ordinated".

I wish he had the balls to do it years ago when Jones was the man. He would have seen skills and footwork then.

But I expect Jones to be at his best since a long time so it could just happen again.

He says that now but as soon as he gets in that ring he is going to do his best to rack up as many shots as possible (and rightly so), sloppy or not. Work rate is what will separate the two of them.

Scores will be interesting. Roy will sit on the ropes a lot and Joe will probably land about 400 punches on gloves, so the judges take on that will be very interesting.

Are you smoking that ****? hopkins has **** poor balance and his footwork was **** compared to mercado. He just bounces in and bounces out uncoordinated. Thats why he got caught and put on his ass twice by a 1 legged ecuadorian sheep farmer with aids.[/quote]
