That is an AMAZING fight for Joe. I love Pavlik but Joe will shine.

 

im a big fan of calzaghe, but he should stop talking about hopkins, pavlik etc, and focus on kessler only. i feel kessler will win the fight, and all this talking about fighting other opponents is just another example of an older, more established fighter losing focus.

Who the hell does he think he is? This is the same guy that never fought anyone, at all, until he fought Lacy last year, who wasnt even that great of a fighter anyway... Defended his crappy WBO belt for years in his own backyard, and thinks for some reason that hes world class! Pavlik at 25 has fought better opposition than Calzaghe has in the past year alone! Meanwhile, his fight the Kessler on Nov. 3rd, and is talking all this smack like he's even gonna get past Kessler. Pavlik will knock this old bum out! Too bad Kessler's gonna get him first.

Hyped fighter!? You are delusional my friend. Who does Kelly have to beat in order for him not to be hyped? He just beat 2 #1 contender and the lineal unified MW Champion of the world by KO! This is a boxing forum not a DJ booth go spin that record somewhere else!

 

I think HBO's original plan was for Taylor to face Calzaghe. But after Wright, Oama, and Spinks, Taylor was damaged goods. He needed to win a big, entertaining fight to rebuild his rep before facing Calzaghe. I suspect HBO wanted him to face Miranda, but Pavlik spoiled that. Taylor got the big and entertaining parts down but fell short on the win part as Pavlik played spoiler again. With his last fight looking too easy Calzaghe to a lesser degree was in the same boat. Before challenging the champion of another weight class he needed to clean house in the Super-Middleweight division. That meant taking on the number 2 guy Kessler. We'll have to see if Kessler is the spoiler type Pavlik is.

The plan isn't completely dead. Taylor still has a few more weeks to exercise his rematch option. And if Taylor can win a rematch with Pavlik he'll have the momentum to take on Calzaghe. But even though Taylor has been talking tough his camp doesn't seem so sure. This fight might not happen. ( Personally I think it will. If Taylor truly is all about the best fight for the best money then rematching Pavlik is his only option )

Since Calzaghe was probably looking at a fight with Taylor to cement his legacy before retiring he's got to be looking at Pavlik as a possible Plan B. But I'm not sure Pavlik is interested in leaving the middleweight division right now. Duddy, Sergia Mora, unifying the belts (though every belt holder says that).... This isn't the talk of a guy planning to move up in weight class. He's 24 so he can probably maintain in the 160 lb for a couple more years. How long is Calzaghe willing to wait?
