Calzaghe should get a better sparring partner

Calzaghe's never been much of a sparrer, doesn't seem to have done him any harm?

Who did Hopkins use to create a virtual image of Jermain Taylor?

 

True statement. Who is Hopkins sparring with?

 

Just because it seems to be the consensus for people to get mirror images of their opponents in for sparring, doesnt mean JC has to/is overlooking Hop because he isnt. JC has his own way of doing things, seems to have done him no harm so far.

Put it this way, Im not sure anyone can truely emulate/immitate Hop anyway. Also, against Kessler, it took JC the first 4 rounds to gauge his opponent and then he took over, I expect nothing less against Hopkins

Seems to have done him harm alright because I could only see Calzaghe having had the best of his opponents with the same use of fast flurries of straight punches inside and of the right lead on his toes... I know he has great adaptation abilities because he took on Eubank with 11 days notice when he was supposed to fight Collins, but he's not used to fight any precise, experienced and tricky american counter-puncher. If there is a fighter in Calzaghe's resume that resembles Hopkins, I would like to know which one?

Hopkins clearly underestimated Taylor when he said that he would face him just like that ( that he was available) in the Eastman post-fight interview in the Staples, LA in Feb 2005. He had four months to prepare for the Taylor bout in July but I'm sure he sparred. Additional info - Roach is thinking of using Craig McEwan to prepare Hopkins for Calzaghe and John David Jackson is a former southpaw Mw champion who is there to assist him.

 

Well unless he gets the big ko from a shot on the hip, he should worry more about getting hit in the face over and over.

 

Like Joe is a real run of the mill guy in the ring, isn't he!

 

And i can't wait to see Hopkins use every trick in the book come April 19th. He's going to be desparate to some degree because he knows how good Calzaghe is.

I bet he looks for a head butt early. He will hit the opposite leg of the view of the ref when they are clinched. Try to get in any shots to the back of the head. Come in leading with his head as if it's in accident and try to catch Calzaghe's head.

It's not an artform just because Bernard Hopkins is doing it. It's no better than Sam Peter's rabbit punching or John Ruiz's homo hugging

 

It's not so much the cheating i look forward to. I just like the fact that he's on top of every situation and does try to get away with it. It's amusing and fun to watch.

 

He hasn't got a choice at the moment to spar with Enzo or not!
The BBBC rule that a fighter cannot get in the ring for a minimum of 30 days after a knockout loss, so no Enzo for Joe.

Considering how well they got on and that Enzo was going to be (as usual) Joe's main sparring partner, I'm sure Joe will be upset. Not saying it'll ruin training or anything but Joe would want him.

 

Maybe why Joe's face looked like thunder when Enzo lost!

Seriously though, I'm fairly certain it's not difficult to get any old fighter to fight as dirty as Hopkins in a sparring situation with no ref to worry about. The 'beauty' of Hopkins is his ability to do it in an actual; fight. I don't see sparring being a problem at all if Joe wants to do it.

Calzaghe will pound Hopkins, he is quite simply that much better. Wide UD or possibly late TKO, should Hopkins tire.
