14 stone is not the natural weight for a 5'11" man with Calzaghes body type.

What you have to remember is when boxers say natural weight they mean their lazy weight.

They've come out of training, no exercise, holidays, beer, **** food, all in all a totally indulgent lifestyle.

I've got no doubt Calzaghe was around 14 stone out of training.

In the old days he'd have been a light heavy. And therefore not as succesful IMO.

Depends on how tough the era. Put him in the 70's to early 80's and he never becomes champ. Against the likes of Andries,JB Williams,Leslie Stewart,Cvyz,Lalonde up untill the rise of RJJ he'd probably do very well.

No different to most fighters when fully matured. If they stay in the same division it undoubtedly gets harder. That avatar pic above with Rees he looks about 13 1/2 stone so yeah his untrained weight is well above smw. On a side note guys like Froch really impress me with their weight. He looks like he maintains near as damn it 12 stone all year round. Really lives the life

his walking around weight was around 13 1/2 - 14 stone, shedding 2 stone was a near starvation for him.

he had problems at times in making the weight.

I was talking about the days of same day weigh ins..............which if I'm not wrong started in the late 80's? Which is what period you're on about:patschdon't mind me I'm talking shite.

Put it this way, if we went back to the old divisions, with one title per weight class, Calzaghe might not have even held a strap let alone been an 'undefeated two-weight World champ', the only weights he could've competed at would've been light heavy and heavy.

Any super middleweight fighter who didnt spend his time in the gym and just lived a normal life ( no strict diet, not much exercise etc etc ) Is exactly the same.

He only comes in at 12 stones at the weigh aswell come fight night he is more 13 stone than 12, all a load of bollocks, like the other bloke said in the thread 14 stone aint his natural weight for his 5 11 frame, it was his out of shape not doing much exercise weight.

Majority male fighters who dont spend there off time in the gym have to drop about 15-20 % body weight for the weigh in. Calzaghe drops about 14% no big deal at all :good.

Trouble making weight depends on the fighter. Floyd said he had trouble making 130 when he put on 6 pounds after the weigh in. That to Castillo, Cotto, Clottey, Corrales, Margorito, Mayorga and Toney would be considered easy ****.

his fathers disagreement with the "weight draining" is also a factor. he was starting to feel the pinch by the mid 00's. but joe came into the ring with only 4 pounds over th elimit on occasion. also all the calzaghe camp have a bit of puppy fat on them.

Calzaghe always struggled to make 12 stone, but you can't blame him for not moving up to Light Heavy sooner when at Super Middle his epic fights with greats like Mario Veit, Will McIntyre, Jimenez, Tocker Pudwill and Mger Mkrtchyan were there to made.

cant remember the opponent but he made a serious mis-judgement before a fight and had to lose a good few pounds in 30minutes before the weigh in, he generaly did struggle with the weight and has been qouted saying his walking around weight is around 14 stone.
