Anyone remember this fight ? It was on tv last night on that nuts channel. Cracking fight, which told me a few things ... 1. Calzaghe has improved massively with age. Although he won and it was a great ,action packed fight he got tagged far more than he does these days, took a lot of hard punches. 2. Calzaghe can't punch anymore. He was punching ALOT harder in this fight, culminating in him busting woodhall up pretty badly by the end . 3. If joe would have fought jones at this time, which the commentators kept referring to ( so it was in the making ) he would have gotten beaten quite heavily. got hit with far too many right hands. 4. People saying calzaghe enjoyed his home comforts too much and should have gone abroad are well wide of the mark. This was an away fight as much as you can have one. The crowd heavily favoued woodhall and chanted " sheepshagger " throughout. he got far more **** than he ever would in the us. a fight in england at this stage of his career was defineatly an away fight. 5. Woodhall is criminally under-rated. very very quick and brave fighter. He was right in it until the ninth ,when joe took over. All in all a top fight. i watched it at the time but never picked up on how competitive it was.
Calzaghe has always eaten the right hand. I said prior to the Hopkins fight that it would be the key weapon and everyone thought I was crazy.
