Pavliks stock is severly damaged, and he's been reduced to fighting small 154lbs'ers.

What once was there has moved on to bigger and better things, Arthur Abraham that is.
Pavlik is a one-dimensional, preprogrammed fighter who bases everything off of touching people with that double J, if he can't find home with a jab he's confused, and its the simple truth.

I would've loved to see someone like Nigel Benn who can successfully slip jabs whilst on the freak offensive, would of took Pavlik out of there in a hurry.

It would look like one of Cal's last two fights, early knockdown leading to his decision win.

However, if there was someone being KOed, Joe would be the one.

of course his hands are **** and have been for years.Joes knocking no one out these days.still i would be surprised if Pavlik would land on Joe.remember JC doesnt suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome like Taylor and will avoid his punches all night whilst Pavlik would take more shots to the
face than an Ohio hooker does in a year as the poll indicates.

Joe never shared his fan's confidence. He had an opportuntiy to leave the sport with a huge win over an undefeated monster champion. Instead, he ran like a crackhead passing the police station, and hid behind a shot to **** Roy Jones.

Hopkins and RJJ are far bigger draws outside of America than KP will ever be.despite 99 out of 100 GFposters predicting him to get KTFO by the then mini-Tyson undefeated Jeff Lacey when he schooled him they said Lacey was **** anyway.same as if he schooled Pavlik.Pavlik was never good anyway was what they would say.no point in fighting Pavlik.he looked average at 170 against a 43 year old Hopkins trying to embarass joe into fighting him.he will never be respected by US fans/internet posters.he took the money fights to finish off a fine career 46-0.:yep

The Pavlik/Calzaghe fight should have happened, and it would have if Pavlik hadn't sucked so bad against Hopkins. Once Pavlik got owned like that, the fight was destroyed and Calzaghe decided to retire after making some money against Jones.

what probably happened was Calzaghe got caught up in thinking about his immediate legacy rather than the long-term. Beating Pavlik, then maybe moving on to Jones would have looked much, much better on his resume. But beating Jones, then Pavlik would be the smart money move. Everybody knows Roy Jones, so people are going to watch and talk about the fight, making the Pavlik fight even bigger. It's not like Pavlik was a household name at the time. And Joe probably believed that Hopkins would lose to Pavlik, and then by beating Pavlik he would legitimize the close win over hopkins.

The problem with all this is that Pavlik is a great middleweight, but his whole style and strategy is predicated on being bigger and stronger than his opponents. The guy is huge for a middleweight, and we saw what happened when he moved up 10 pounds. I'm sure Pavlik will settle in at 168 soon, but he'd better gain those 7-8 pounds of muscle rather than taking the easy route and just cutting less. The way Pavlik fights, he absolutely NEEDS every physical advantage. It's a shame the middleweight division isn't more populated with good fighters, because Pavlik would be best off staying there and dominating. But he's going to have to move up if he wants to make the big money and a name for himself.

But anyway: Calzaghe wins by wide UD. Pavlik would not be able to stop Calzaghe OR keep him on the ropes. When have you ever seen Calzaghe fight backing down?? Or Pavlik, for that matter. The way to beat Pavlik was shown by Hopkins--a fighting retreat. Let him come in and batter him every step of the way, then turn aside and let him come in again. Calzaghe would probably try to force the action and bully Pavlik onto the ropes. The only reason this would work is that Calzaghe is the bigger, stronger guy with the better conditioning level. He would smother Pavlik's punches and mitigate their power. He might even mark Pavlik up pretty badly, but I can't see either guy getting dropped...Joe has only been dropped by counters, and that isn't Pavlik's forte. And Pavlik isn't going down from Calzaghe's punches, that's for sure. Calzaghe UD is the only way I can see this one going.

Yeah I thought that I put the poll public, so we could embarrass the people who pick Pavlik to win, but I guess I clicked the wrong box.

This isn't about decisions Calzaghe made, this is about what would have most likely happened if they had met in the ring. Calzaghe outworked Hopkins and made him fake low blow pain to get some air. Next fight Hopkins reduced Pavlik to a sparring partner.

I like Pavlik and favor him over anyone at MW currently and think he would be competitive with most MW greats. Calzaghe is a different story though. An accumulation puncher like Pavlik who fights one way very well but doesn't have any other option will never beat Calzaghe. Joe reacts to being hit hard, even to being knocked down, with immediate pure aggression. Pavlik would meet the first opponent in Joe with a higher workrate than himself. Joe's handspeed would confuse Pavlikl, he doesn't have much of a height/reach advantage in this matchup, is not the fighter with the better stamina (wich he usually is) and if Jpe could take those uppercuts from Kessler, Pavlik isn't going to knock him out.
