Yes and it was shameful. All the catch-weight fights for titles are shameful. Catch weight fights should only be for special occasions, where guys in different weight classes meet up for meaningful showdowns. Not for the A side to have an advantage just because he can impose it.

Canelos team was stupid and offered it first, Mayweather took advantage.
Same with Dawson and Andre Ward at 168.
Mayweather also scheduled Marquez at a CW but he ****ed Marquez over.

If it's a 160 lb. fight one fighter can't win the title if he weighs above the 160 lb. limit.....................

Then why use the catch weights if they don’t benefit him? Of course they benefit him or he wouldn’t ask the fighters to fight at that weight.

Those were called "over-the-weight" matches if the Champion fought out of his lower weight class at a higher weight. Many cases of these exist where the Champion loses to some "contender" at a higher weight.

Public pressure usually required the Champion to give the "contender" a title shot at the correct weight class he was champion of...with correct weigh-ins.

Of course it benefitted Pac too.
If fact, Cotto started to do it himself when he became the "a-side" after feeling the effects in the Pac fight, knowing how much of an edge it would give him.

I would say that it limited Cotto's size advantage more than it was an actual advantage for Pacquiao. Guys who are drained have no snap or power behind their punches (Canelo Vs. Mayweather and Canelo Vs. Chavez Jr., for example). Cotto's shots were heavy and thunderous.

I'm Curious, not sure where this goes, but I'm seeing two different points made.
    1. Who fought the most catchweight fights.
    2. Who benefited the most from catchweight fights.

I'm reading your posts as -- under category (2). Based on the link below, this poster has a bit different, wondering your take...
    https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...than-emmanuel-dapidran-pacquiao.584975/page-4
    @Bogotazo
    Pacquiao has: {{{same as yours 4}}}

    Cotto
    Margarito
    JMM (3)
    Algieri

    Cotto has:

    Martinez
    Geale
    Canelo
    Pacquiao
    Margarito (2)

    Canelo has:

    Lara
    Kirkland
    Cotto
    Khan
    Chavez Jr.
    Mayweather
    Jose Miguel Cotto

Again wondering based on 1: Who fought the most catchweight fights, not did it benefit them.
Then a second question could be asked: Out of the above who benefited the most.

I interpreted the catchweight king phrase to mean-if we counted how many Pac was involved in.

The difference in size parity obviously. If the agreed upon catchweight does not hinder the opponent, then what's the problem with the CW bout?

Fans are partly to blame for the resurgence of catchweight fights over the past 5-7 years, as we've allowed them to become somewhat of the norm now.

No fans aren’t the fighters are. Tell me what fans can do if both guys are willing to take catch weights. Imo if both guys agree to the weight whilst i will make a mental note you won’t catch me crying for the aggrieved party after the fight.

It doesn't matter whether the champ agrees, it wouldn't be up to him. If Lomachenko wants to defend a world title against Pacquiao at 137lbs, he needs to win a light welterweight title.

It's simple. If we don't like the CW fight, we don't watch. If both guys agree, that's on them. If one is drained, that's on the one who agreed Yeah, simple as that.

If it’s a fight I’m interested in Im watching, it’s up to the fighters and their teams to get them the best terms possible. If a fighter really wanted to turn the fans against the A side they should say no and tell the fans the reason was because the A side was tryna drain me or move me up to a high weight.

They can't fight for the lightweight title (unless Pac makes 135) but they can for the Pacquiao's welterweight title (if he wins it over Matthysse)! Just imagine — Loma can become (well, if he wins, I know he can lose as well) a champion at welterweight, LOL! :)
