Herrera is the real champ and Danny knows it, that's why he fighting like the loser not the champ The reality is, his camp (mainly his racist wierd ass looking father) made too many statements about how to move forward in his career but if he fighting so 50+ ranked fighter then that's BS . He got a gift against Herrera because he was fighting in Puerto Rico for the first time, but also that was actually supposed to be a tune up fight which nearly went wrong, that's the point that's being made. Herrera is a tough dude on paper but he was considered a tune up and people were expecting him to be knocked out In a few rounds.

I wouldn't call it an immense beating, but I tend to agree. The responses I'm seeing on here are from one extreme to the other. He doesn't need to fight Matthysse again right now, but it shouldn't be Rod Salka either. There are plenty of fighters in between who would have been far more acceptable, and worthy. No disrespect to Rod Salka. It's likely his only chance, and hope he acquits himself well.

He can make more money fighting matthysse than anyone else at 140 with the exception of PAC that seems like a good enough reason for me
Using the ropes to stay up is considered a knock down, but there's a lot of gray. Fact is, Matthysse went down while getting punched.
I know enough about how the game is played to know that he is angling toward a big money fight and doesn't want to jeopardize it by taking on a seriously dangerous fight. Really, no problem. Not to mention the much too close call vs Herrera. But there is a not so fine line between a viable fight and a not viable fight. Right now, they're on the wrong side of that equation.

Herera is solid, but supposed to be a walk through. A homecoming fight in Puerto Rico. Now, he's fighting a guy with NO CHANCE. That fight should NOT be on Showtime. That's all I'm saying. Maybe he should retire if he can't handle the pressure.
