Well, not just that. Ward seems to be getting better and better, and I reckon he's the type that is smart enough to improve on his first effort. I also believe he is reaching the point where his power is more fully developed, and with his ring IQ, I think he can render Froch even more ineffective. I also believe having two healthy hands increases his chances, as he put on a masterful display with his left hook last time around. I'm not saying Ward WOULD stop him, because Froch is a super tough guy, but it certainly would not surprise me. I would be surprised, however, if Froch performed better against Ward in a return bout. I don't think Froch has improved at all since their first fight; Froch is still the second best super middle in the world, but he's basically the same guy. I believe Ward is still improving and growing stronger.
Froch has improved.. Before the first fight froch truly believed that he could easily knockout ward and would catch him with something big at some point. He just went out looking for the big punch that was never going to come. He has adjusted his training methods and is one for learning from his mistakes and i certainly wouldn't be foolish enough to believe that he couldn't make a better fight of it the 2nd time out. He has a habit of proving folk wrong. Ward is obviously improving too but how much is hard to say cos i just don't think that verison of dawson was much of a victory. For the record i reckon froch would have took dawson out that night too. Ward still does not punch hard enough to stop carl froch for me. Maybe he has weak hands and cannot run the risk but even so froch has never looked like being stopped.
I think The Cobra is an incredible boxer, and one whose career has been inspiring and fun to watch. I would (and have said this since before he even beat Bute) favor him against any super middle now not named Ward. I really cannot see what Carl can do differently to control the range. He said himself after the Super Six that he had no interest in the rematch, stating that Ward was "either too close or too far away". He gave Ward props and said he's a P4P fighter who is effective, but also added he had no respect for Ward's style. What can Froch realistically do differently? His own words in the aftermath of the Super Six seem to indicate that he does not believe there was anything he could do differently? And when have you ever heard Carl Froch lacking in confidence? What do you even think he could do differently? Especially in terms of taking control of the range? I like Carl a lot. He's far more talented than many give him credit for, even now. And he's exciting and fun to watch. His fights are entertaining. But I really have a hard time seeing him improving on his first effort against Ward. I had always believed Bute was tailor made for Froch, and I don't think too many people thought he would struggle badly with Mack. That's not to say that his victories were not explosive and great, but my point is I don't see strong evidence of him making any serious changes. I mean this isn't Barrera transforming from brawler into a master tactician. I do think Carl showed vast improvement over the course of the Super 6, and I think he's a hard worker who's always learning new tricks of the trade. But his disadvantages against Ward, I think, will be even more pronounced in a rematch. Ward is just one of those guys who has exceptional skills and smarts. Fighters with those qualities tend to do better in rematches, and I think Ward would prove more a shining example of the rule than an exception. I can understand this. I always believe it's the punches that you don't see coming, and not necessarily raw power, that will increase Ward's KO rates as his strength has been maturing. And Froch has been hurt and/or stunned in fights. If I recall, he seemed distraught over a few body shots in the Kessler fight, and I believe a body attack can wear Froch down. Again, not saying a Ward stoppage is likely, but it wouldn't surprise me. I'd be more surprised if Froch improved on his first effort. How do you see Froch finding a way to neutralize Ward's left hook?
Froch isn't beating Ward. His confidence may be sky high at this point, but Ward is simply better and that gap will only continue to widen over the coming years.
What shite options. He has a chance to land something huge and stun Ward, and beating him with one of his flurries. His chances are very slim though... Ward is just superior to him technically.
If Ward is so good he should be a man and take his belt to Britain just as Froch took his belt to the USA. All of Ward's major fights have been in his home country which is a significant advantage. If Ward can beat Froch in the UK then massive props to him, until then he doesn't get the respect his talent deserves.
Im ashamed to say ive not yet seen their fight,but 2 judges had it 115-113 Ward which seems fairly close and this was in the US.Froch thinks he can beat Ward,Kessler also believes he can beat Ward but its very rare in boxing that a guy completly overturns what happened in the first fight.When a guy has your number they usually have your number.
It was not close at all. 2 judges were very "generous". IIRC, the British judge only gave Froch 3 rounds. Froch had a "bad day". Ward had a "bad hand"(read: broken hand).:yep
IMO no Ward is a bad style match up for him. Ward will always own him on the inside where he has a huge advantage there.
