Which of above fights were at middleweight limit? I could ask the same question of people who rank Harry Greb highly at middleweight.
Also when did LaMotta beat Hudson?

So what do you make of his two wins over Greb? Greb was past his peak, but is there serious reason to believe that he is further past his peak than when he beat Mickey Walker?

As to Walker, Flowers seems to have been robbed against him - I'm not in the habit of changing judges decisions in retrospect with no film, but doesn't the scandal at least show that Flowers hung with Walker? That would be a very special fighter, no?

I understand your concerns regarding the film, but you DO have Greb at two...Williams beat Lytell, Charley Burley, beat Lloyd Marshall whilst weighing in at the 160lb limit, with his opponent over that limit (Great win), Jack Chase, has a stack of other great wins....I think he warrants inclusion, personally.

Fitz at #1 is kooky, but I kind of like it. How highly do you rate Dempsey, who he wrestled the title from?

He beat 3 MW champions, a huge raft of contenders and punchers, proved his chin and generalship moving up to LHW way past his prime, I think you should consider taking another look at Tiger, he's a lock for a 20, possibly should be considered for the 10. A great champion.

    Thanks for putting up 20.

I don't think that Hopkins has a resume which can be compared to LaMotta, for sure, but Hopkins has a huge string of defences, and shut down the division during his tenure. He does also have some really good wins, including Glen Johnson and Tito Trinidad.

Plus, both are on film and Hopkins looks far and away the better fighter.

I think Tommy Ryan would be on my 20, sure. I don't think he would make a 10. I rate Ryan high, high, pound for pound, anyway.

I accept the points made generally about Flowers, but what I'm saying is, "not that good"? (A quote from Mendoza's post). It seems unlikely to me that a fighter fitting this description beats Greb and gives Mickey so much trouble, is all.

Nice, you've included Langford, why did you pick out #15 for him?

Tiger beat multiple MW champions and has multiple defences as well as a lot of good wins over very good contenders - so i'd like to hear a little bit about why Jones and Leonard are above him?

Cerdan in the top 10, you like him better than Flowers for that spot?

You got Tiger very high - is that a level of opposition pick? And reliant on Fullmer's ranking? You got him higher than anyone on the board, I think, maybe explain that one to us? It does me no good to see him above Burley, I admit!

tiger is too slow..a much smaller emille grffith was able to tag him several times...the only reason why he was rank top 50 by some is bec he won MW and LHW title. more of accomplishment rather than skill...

i must admit flowers was a better boxer than cerdan but i feel flowers career at 160 is not that established like langford

I dont think its too bad McGrain, i havent done lists for ages, (im retired!). But Tiger definitely hits that bracket just after the very highest level of achievers in the history of 160 for me.

As for Gene, the only way i could justify it is that for me, he was the secnd best of that golden era of MWs.

Got tiger that high because he beat the black murderers row of that time so yes quality of opposition. Fullmer for me was the best of the rest during robinsons late spell in the division so thats why i rate him highly.

p.s Dont think he'd beat burley h2h if thats any consolation for you lol

Tiger Flowers is possibly in there, but its preference. For me Burley was a better welter, but as we know because of his having to fight the larger men should be ranked higher at middle in terms of achievement and resume.

Yeah, Tiger's competition was at a consistantly high standard...he really seems to have split the board though, more than I thought he would, you got some guys with him inside the ten, you got some who don't think he should be in the twenty...I think when I come to do a list he'll probably be just outside the 10, which is honestly where I expected most people to place him...

Well ,I'm in trouble if Mendoza agrees with me!
Seriously I think Flowers may be overated on the basis of his two wins over a fading Greb,as I said earlier I could very well be wrong I often am.

You are quite right Hudson BEAT lamotta ,my mistake scratch him and insert Cerdan and Basora again as Jake beat him twice.

I do hear that, but Flowers beat Greb less than a year after Greb beat Walker. He also gave Walker terribel trouble. I'm unsure as to why this should mean Flowers is anything other than a fighter of the highest calibre.

Did anything happen with Greb in the interceeding months? Is there reason to believe he was more "past prime" for Flowers than for Walker, for example?

    For anyone, not just McVey.
