Hes obviously no Julian Jackson but its too early to say tbh. If you see clips of Calzaghe early on, he seems to have more power than DeGale though which is strange

Calzaghe had something like 20KO's from 21 fights early in his career. He was fighting cans though, although I think his power is sometimes underrated. He's not a big puncher but above average I'd say.

my comment was slighlty stupid. Dont know what i was thinking.

I think what i basically meant- Calzaghe looked like he had more power(as they are both SMW and comparible) . I agree Calzaghe has some underrated power

He hits a lot harder than khan p4p. Khan has no power and 99% of his stoppages are too early and with the homer english refs that stop fights after a flurry. Which is what khan does.

He has decent power and with his skill he will cause opponents problems...but he does slap.

I think exactly the same thing Jeff.

My issue is that I think DeGale is changing to much from his natural style to try and win over the fans. He only needed to adapt his style not a compelte change. He could be a very very effective defensive counter puncher, base his style around guys like Hopkins, Mayweather, even Witter. He should be training with the Ingles. It seems every fighter these days is trying to have a Ricky Hatton style. I feel the same way about Gavin.

We saw the negative effects of this on friday when he was getting hit with flush jabs which would not have got near him in the Olympics.

I think if DeGale had not gone to the Olympics he would be rated highly by fans on here. Saying that we probably would have never seen him box.

The posatives about him are that he is very very very fast, good reflexes, good footwork and is in tremendous condition thanks to Jim McDonnell.

DeGale does slap his punches, but his defence and movement is superb. He is very fast and power will improve with speed. It is very early in his career and he will improve

I feel he will be better against someone who is better. If that makes sense. I feel he will be a better counter-puncher than a fight forcer.............I'm chattin ****, hopefully someone can decipher what I mean.

I like the look of him, I just hope as Fleaman pointed out he gets better with opponent which isn't really out of the realms of possibility. He can only beat whats put in front of him at the end of the day. He needs to step up in class a little bit each time he fights becasue he will not get away with 3 consecutive left hooks against etter opposition so he needs to get that out of his system straight away. Apart form that he'll do very well
