I'm quite suprised that there hasn't been a thread about this yet, so here goes: This content is protected The affable Rendall Munroe is now set to face WBC Super Bantam titleholder Toshiaki Nishioka in a fight that will see a British fighter square-off for a genuine world title; the fight will hopefully get a lot more coverage than the N'Dou-Mini Hatton 'world title' farce as well as Munroe has earned it the old fashioned way and deserves a spot in the limelight. Nishioka will undoubtedly be Munroe's biggest challenge to date, but Nishioka isn't infallable either. Can Rendall bring the goods home? Thoughts, as always, are welcome.:good
Munroe will be WBC champ. Somethings are meant to be and te binman winning the WBC belt is one of them. He won't last long at world level.
If Maloney were to put Munroe in with Nishioka at this point I would be very surprised. Munroe is not world class, it really is that simple & if he fights any world class guy he will be in over his head. Leaning on your opponent on the ropes throwing arm punches all night is not going to cut it at world level. So no, he won't be sweeping any world champ aside. TBH, I haven't seen Nishioka fight before, so I don't know what Munroe's chances are in the fight. Still, I think Munroe has found his level, but it would be nice for him to go for a world title - I am sure he would give it his all and earn himself a decent bit of money, plus it will get him some more exposure :good
Check out youtube then, Kos- unless the vids have been removed from when I first saw them. As you say, even if he loses hopefully he makes some good money out of it. I'd love him to win it, though- may well just be one of British boxing's biggest fairytale stories.
I think he has a lot of attributes that the bigger name boxers would love to have...... His stamina is second to none, workrate is excellent and he can take a decent shot. But I just don't see him doing it....... would love to be wrong though. Either way, if it's here I will be going.
Why not? Nishioka is good, but he is beatable. I reckon Munroe could really push the champ. He just turned round a very hard fight against a very good opponent in Maludrottu (if that's how it's spelled) as well and you could argue that this is Nishioka's best challenge in his last few fights:think. It's this amazing site where there are a shitload of videos on loads of different things. Idiots who post vids from their mobiles have pretty much ruined the search function, though!:twisted:
I think he could as well, don't get me wrong. IMO his corner have been copping a lot of unneccessary flak..... they aren't geniuses or anything, but they give clear instructions at all times and maintain a calm corner - I really hate cheerleaders/shouters and screamers One thing that concerns me is his liking of a tear up - his chin is good, he is a good body puncher and such, but he regularly got into the perfect range to make Maludrottu look amateurish, but still got dragged in - might have been the occasion, ring rust, who knows......
I'd have to have a look at Nishioka. I'd be surprised if many have viewed him extensively aside from his impressive stoppage over Jhonny Gonzalez.
I think he lacks that x factor (sorry for the bad pun) needed to make it at world level. He has good atributes and actually has a well rounded enough game to make it but just doesn't have anything special. I just wish he would get a new experienced high quality trainer and I would like him to go to the US to spar world class fighters rather then good prospects and decent domestic level fighters. I doubt he will fight for the title in England either Frank Baloney will put in a low ball offer in the purse bids and will lose the rights to the Japanese Promoters.
I had watched him previously to the Gonzalez fight, but that was some time ago. He did look very very good from what I remember though. Then I saw the fights against Jhonny and Choko Hernandez. Gonzalez would be the #1 Super-Bantamweight in the World if not for his lack of durability, the guy has everything else and is a top class fighter. Despite getting floored by a good shot, Nishioka was very much in that fight(winning the 2nd and being 50/50 in the 3rd till he landed that monster shot). He looked okay against Hernandez, not as good as the Gonzalez fight but still miles above Munroe. I remember Munroe being shaken a little by Matirosian, and while rewatching the Trotta fight recently I noticed he had his legs wobbled in the 2nd/3rd(it was highlighted as a replay between rounds and the commentators picked up on it). Prior to rethinking about those fights I was contemplating Munroe maybe losing a 120-108 decision with him taking an absolute beating. But if he's hurt by lesser punchers who won't hit him as often, from as odd angles and with such speed then Nishioka will stop him. Nishioka stoppage by the 6th round having won all the previous rounds. Munroe will give it his all but he's just not good enough, the only advantage he'll have on the Japanese fighter is size and maybe home advantage.....but even the second of those is unlikely. Nishioka imo is probably the best at the weight.
