can ortiz really win, or is it a formality he won't?

The last butt was absolutely intentional and in light of that he certainly got what he deserved.

Never seen a better example of someone forgetting to 'protect yourself at all times'.

Cortez says lets go but gives a flimsy visual cue with his arms...in fact, as the fighters come near, cortez still has his arm in between them and looks away....i guess that confused ortiz a bit and gave him the impression that cortez wasnt actually ready to recommence the fight or watch the fighters.

What happened to addressing both fighters, give them a stern command of what he wants, get both of their attention, touch gloves, separate them clearly and say " box"???

The fact that Floyd won and what was legal or not isn't really in dispute is it?
I mean on the face of it, it all looks ridgy didge as far as the rules are concerned.

I just think that Floyd wasn't being very sportsmanlike with a cheap shot like that.

I know it can be argued that Ortiz started it with the head butt, and that's true, however the ref did reprimand Ortiz by way of deducting a point.

As far as I'm aware the point deduction is a deterrent so it won't happen again.
If it does, another point is deducted or he is DQ'd. So he would end up getting what he deserved anyway if he kept up with the foul play.

So for the opponent, Floyd in this case, to come back with a sucker punch, when it's pretty clear to him that his opponent is not ready (for whatever reason) is simply poor sportsmanship.

The fact that it ended the fight makes it even worse.

It may not be illegal, but it is bad form.

    PJ

he took Ortez by the hand told him what he did was wrong

Walked around the ring with him and took a point off him

    then said to box on

he then left them to them selves

both came in and hugged for a 3rd time

    Floyd then KOed him

    dont blame the ref

Ortez didn't know what he was doing

    why is the term

    PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES

    used at all then

    if it is bad form

    then it should be

ONLY HIT YOUR OPPONENT WHEN HE HAS HIS HANDS UP

    BTW

i hope he fights Pac and he gets KOED by then PACMAN

Of course, protect yourself at all times.

I guess put yourself in Floyds shoes, would you have done exactly what Floyd did, in those exact circumstances?

I mean you can't deny there was some confusion.

Why are people questioning Floyds sportsmanship? Im pretty sure if any one of us here copped a flying head butt that caused our mouths to split open we would react the same way

I thought cortez could have handled that situation a lot better. Not saying ortiz isnt at fault, he deserves a lot of blame too for simply being an idiot.

Can we forget about the fouls for just a second and discuss how good or bad Floyd looked iyho.

I thought he looked even better than his last few fights. His defensive skills had me in awe.

if I had just been head butted as blatant as he was and then was told to box on

    maybe i would have

it is much easier from the outside looking in

once you are in a fight and get headbutted like him who knows.

    they were told to fight.

whos to say that floyd wasn't still real pissed after being head butted

he just took that out on the bloke who did it

Ok, so you said 'maybe I would'.
Meaning it's clearly not as black and white as you're implying.

Yes, you're right it is easy to think about what you'd do after viewing the tapes 25 times.
During the heat of the moment, it requires quick decision making.

As far as Floyd being real pissed, perhaps, however the ref did just take a point away, and Ortiz was apologetic (perhaps too apologetic, but that's another story).

I mean it's not like the head butt went unnoticed and/or Ortiz was denying it.

Sitting here after looking at the tapes a few times, I can say I wouldn't do what Floyd did.

In the heat of the moment, I can't say for sure.
But I'm generally a softy in any sport I've been involved in, so at a guess, I wouldn't have retaliated like Floyd did.
