Can Sergio Martinez at the age of 37 still become an ATG or too late

    Funny to me how people say beating floyd is the only way for him to become an atg, then some people people still wonder why sergio is chasing that fight lol.

    If he fights 2-3 more times and WINS versus: Mayweather / Cotto / Pac / Alvarez / Ward - he's instantly an ATG.

    He isn't even fighting the best available contenders at middleweight. Chavez Jr. ain't ****. Barker wasn't ****. Dzinziruk wasn't ****. Macklin, I consider Macklin a legit top ten guy. Still, since becoming the man at 160, he has only fought one legit middleweight contender. That is bull****. To me the verdict is still out on Martinez, I think he is a little over rated. How can people tell how good you are if you won't fight the best available competition, while hiding behind the nobody knows them, it won't make money bull**** excuse, when he gets his ****ing million dollars every time he fights bums like Barker, Dzinziruk, and Chavez.

    Two more wins and he would make it, one against Floyd at 154 and another against Ward at 168 but I doubt that he could win against either of them.

    He would not beat alot of the top guys at smw. He is a small middleweight. He could beat Ward at 160, though.

    Yes he still could, but he's going to have to go up rather then down. He's more then likely not gonna land any of the fights needed at 154, on the other hand though I bet Ward, Froch, Pavlik 2, Chavez 2, Bute, Dirrell and any other big name at 168 would be more then happy to fight Sergio.

    yes he would be the much smaller man, but he's been the smaller guy for years now with whoever he fights. And Pac and Floyd have done it their whole careers and have been okay.

    Agree. I happen to think Sergio is a better MW than Randy Turpin who almost exclusively fought in Britian.

    True! I think that wins against Floyd at 154 and than Ward 168 would be enough for something like top 80 ATG depending on Ward career afterwards

    By quite a bit, mind you And Turpin gave prime MW Robinson all kinds of problems. A southpaw with Sergio's speed of hand and foot, athleticism, unconventional angles and stamina is in the fight and then some against most of those guys, beating probably half. It's all guesswork.

    I don't think many of them will come down to fight him. Ward, already said he would not even do a catchweight against him.

    If these 154 fights don't come off (and they wont), he's going to have to fight somebody. He's been the legitimate champ for almost 3 yrs now - it will be by the time he gets back - so who's to say if he fights #1, #2, #3 and unifies titles and what not over the next 1.5 to 2 years, he can't be an ATG in a divisional sense at Middleweight? Why not? Against what standard? Only half of Duran's title defenses at 135 were against rated opposition and he's widely touted the greatest lightweight ever. :blood
