That's why I said, if he wants to be considered a ATG he needs to go up and chase them.

Go up to 168 and beat Froch and Ward would do wonders for his career.

 

He does not need to do that at all to be atg. He is close to being that now. If just keeps doing what has been doing for the last 5 years for a few more, he will clearly be that. If he gets a big fight at jr middle like Mayweather or Canelo take it, but other than that stay the king of 160.

It would be at 150 and that is an unfair comparison. Mayweather has grown into a natural WW which is why he makes fighters come up to fight him instead of fighting at a lower weight. Mayweather at 154 is the equivalent to Martinez at 160.

Fighting at 150 is more in Floyds favor than Martinez's. If Mayweather beat Martinez at 160 he would go way up on my ATG list. Likewise, if Martinez beats Mayweather at 150.

Remember when Duran, Sugar, Hearns all moved up to fight Haglar. Now imagine if they all had the mind process of today's fighters.

 

Sergio is a rough fighter. He doesn't really cut, hits and holds doesn't seem to get bothered too much by dirty fighting. I think Sergio can reproduce the same problems Bika gave Ward but with more speed and slickness.

So who did they beat that makes them so much greater than Martinez? In a lot of different instances, we don't even know how good they actually were. In a lot of eras, somebody like Paul Williams would've probably been avoided to a ridiculous extent. It's names on a sheet of paper. I don't consider Martinez great and legacy isn't his or his promoter's objective right now, either unfortunately. I'm saying if the 154 fights don't surface and he's left only with 160 -- and he cleans up the top contenders, finishing with 8-10 defenses of the legit championship, a 4-5 year reign and possibly unified titles, why couldn't he be considered an ATG Middleweight in the divisional sense?

Look at the competition he's faced in a short amount of time and how he's disposed of them .Haters gonna hate.

 

It is doubtful that Sergio gets the fights to make himself an ATG, and what little chance he has to be an ATG, would have to be at 154, not 160(where he is simply too small to be considered an ATG).

If Sergio fought and beat the following at 154, he would rightfully be called an ATG at 154.

If Martinez beats Floyd (what would presumably be HIS only loss), Canelo/Cotto and Ward... he's an ATG in my mind. Keep in my mind it's only been fairly recently he's been fighting at 160. He's gone up in weight as he's aged. He was a WW for a longgggg time.
