The IBO is the odd ball here...anyone care to comment on them? Tommorows fight between Juan Diaz-Michael Katsidis is for the vacant IBO title
I thought he had to let go of the IBF belt, otherwise he couldn't fight Cotto because of a mandatory?
The World Boxing Conspiracy's green belt is still the most coveted...they've all got problems though until they are unified...which should put them all on the same level, at least for the time the same man wears them.
This is my personal opinion on that question: I suppose it would be better for all the belts to stay with one guy but as explained above sometimes its damn near impossible... So many belts (alphabet soup or ABC belts) just confuse people... Im a big boxing fan who stays up to date with the news but i find my self confused from time to time... So many different rules and bodies makes it too hard... IF you look deeper in its not impossible for all belts to stay with the one guy (look at Roy Jones' light heavyweight title run or Bernard Hopkins' middelweight) but i feel boxing would be better off if the fighters disregarded all the belts and the best fought the best and the guy who one was champ... No bull**** belt just the respect of you fought the best you beat them so your champion... To gain any of the belts - WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF, IBO - you more often than not DO NOT have to fight the best in that divison... So a guy doesnt have to fight the best or defend against the best in that division but can say hey im the champ i got me a IBWB-SGDHDDFH ****in whatever belt... If your interested look up the Ring Magazine belt... You dont pay sanctioning fees and the only way you lose the belt is through retirment or going up a weight class... Some consider it the most worthy while others disregard it.... Also about which organistaion is seen as the best? Like another bloke said i suppose WBC but at the end of the day they are all as corrupt as each other... I have my own champs per weight division regardless of any belt for who they fight and best... For example when Floyd Mayweather was still around and Cotto had just beat Mosley and Floyd had signed for De La Hoya II... I then regarded Cotto and the Welterweight Champ... He was fighting and beatin the best while Floyd had not beatin a Welterweight since Baldomir and wsnt planning on fighting a welter in the future...
No massive fights to be made in the division without him. So there was no pressure on the Alphabet organisations from top promoters to strip, is my guess. See what I mean? If Bob Arum had Pavlik in 1999 he might try to arrange a title fight without involving Hopkins. Pissing in the ear of the WBA - or whoever he is tight with - about Hopkins failing to fight their manditory etc. Fighters in busy divisions seem to find it near impossible to keep title unified.
Ok, lets take Ruslan Chagaev, for example. He was trying to climb a fence, and he fell on it (Between his legs) at the top, and injured his labia. Therefore, he was unable to defend the Title within a said period. So, then John Ruiz, Norman Stone and Andre the Giant all started bitching and whining, as the number 1 and number 2 contenders, that Chagaev only had a certain period to defend the title, or he had to be stripped, via WBA Rules and Regulations concerning title defenses. So, the WBA did what my old ugly, braindead witch Supervisor used to do with us back in the day. She used to invent her own rules on the spot. The WBA does this as well. Instead of stripping his ass, they simply made him pay an extra sanctioning fee, and he got to keep his Belt and Title, and be named "WBA Champion Emeritus with Clitoris in Remissionus" or some ****, and then they had Andre and Ruiz pay more sanctioning fees and fight for both the Regular and Interim WBA Titles.
It's just another belt, but with a "computerized" ranking system. It's a good looking belt, and a lot of tough guys have held it. No different than the Big Three. The Champ makes the Belt. Period.
