you seem to be having a problem mixing the past with the present....
Pacquiao was rated equally as a Welterweight BEFORE the losses. There is a big difference also between fighting a guy who's on top of the division versus a guy that had just lost a few times, as you remarked yourself. This is exactly what Mayweather will be held against, that he hadnt fought the best available competition WHEN it was available. Not after suffering losses.

And it does go back to answering to "casual fans" as Round mentioned. Even though Pacquiao may have suffered losses, he's still got a strong fan base and internationally exposed heavily. People will still want to see that match-up, though at this rate, Mayweather would be expected to win handedly

I think its sad how the best boxer of this era is so underappreciated...people want to see knockouts, but never think about the conditioning he puts himslef thru to make it 12 and still look like the 3rd, but honestly their is no pleasing the people...I remember fans being upset at Tyson because they'd order his PPV only to have it end in less than 4 rounds and feel like they got cheated so...Floyd is doing the right thing.

young guns need the charisma of pac and the abilities and buying power of floyd. without these, machida would kick rigo's ass in combat sports

At this point in their career, I'd say it would be a good fight to see who needs to retire. Maybe Floyd will put up the fight once he gets his first loss. If he wins, that would be a huge boost to his status and resume.

They kind of do, because unless Floyd sacks up and takes on Saul "Kid Ginger" Alvarez, and unless Manny manages to somehow get Marquez into the ring with him for one last fight, neither man will ever do 1 Million-plus PPV buys again. There's almost no one else left for either man, in terms of big fights that will capture the public's imagination.

Pac doesn't need Floyd, he's already the greatest fighter of this era when he won fighter of the decade. Floyd is in the back seat when he was runner up .
