If you're talking to me...lighten up boyo. Valdez can definitely crack...didn't see him in person, but would guess he cracked harder than Hostak or Apostoli...yeah Steele ranks ahead, but Valdez could definitely crack him if those two did it. So yeah...that would be a way.

 

I don't see where anyone has actually ranked Valdez above Steele..so calm down. I think what you're doing really, is underrating Valdez a bit. You're usually a very good poster Seamus, and you and I agree quite a lot on certain fighters...for instance Carlos Monzon and a few others, but you're overlooking, as dpw17 pointed out, that Valdez was indeed one hell of a puncher,....witness what he did to Bennie Briscoe...and during that fight, he looked complete...he fought with a cat-like cunning,...and remember the two titanic battles he gave Monzon? Especially the rematch....even decking the steel chinned Carlos...
Valdez, as i posted, would indeed be a wildcard, ...a very dangerous proposition for any of the middleweight greats mentioned.

There are probably at least 20 fighters I'd like to be able to squeeze into the top 10.

Greb could never be no. 1 on my list based on the fact that I've never seen a fight of his and much of legacy is based on newspaper decision. He's still in my top ten regardless, but just can't have him no. 1 or 2.

I like this list. But I would swap out Hopkins with Jones Jr. At their bests, Jones JR. looked light years better than Bernard. And When they did fight, (in a fight in which both looked worse than usual) Jones won fair and square. Jones was the superior fighter. I think Bernard surpassed Jones only in longevity. I put zero stock in their preposterous rematch years later.

 

One of GGGs best wins was beaten by a shot to bits Arthur Abharam last year. Look how Gilberto beat Arthur for every minute of every round. But Arthur still beat GGGs second best win no problem.
His record is too weak for him to be in the ATG discussion. Plus he had the opportunity to change that by fighting Ward. Instead he squirmed out of the chance to drag a guy up from 147 instead.
His best win is David Lemieux. Does beating him make you one of the top 10 greatest MEs of all time?

He just isn't an ATG. His biggest fight to date on Saturday isn't even selling out. He doesn't belong in this thread.
