You’d be surprised with barely any stable to work with a lack of investment in boxing due to the money involved. To compete he would need a minimum of $50m a year on top of his own purses. There’s a reason he went with DAZN in the first place. The market is inflated and not money will be entering it. A network is going to want a minimum of 8-10 cards a year. Canelo fights on two at £20-35m a fight. Garcia fights on another two at what would likely soon be $1.5-3m a fight and not yet sold a PPV. That’s before opponents, production and the rest of the card let’s say another $1-2m a card for a standard card plus $5-10m for a Canelo card. That’s likely $90-115m for 4 cards a year plus for content that people actually want to watch you are looking at another $2.5m for each of the other 4 cards. So we are looking at a $125m a year outlay. yes Canelo and Garcia could go to PPV but the channels that already have PPV offerings have providers in Top Rank and PBC neither of which will give up their control over dates for Canelos own promotional company. on top of that for the purses Canelo is currently getting plus his opponents. A card like Canelo vs BJS would need to do a million PPV buys which just wouldn’t happen. my guess a deal with DAZN whereby Matchroom and Canelo freeze out Golden Boy would be the most likely move.
He will get a TV deal though lets be honest. Promoters will want to work with him and it’ll be the exact same model that Mayweather did, AJ does now and various others have throughout their careers - even Khan.
Surely cresting your own promotion company is a natural evolution in the sport? Probably has tax benefits too.
True but that will not include paying Garcia and others millions. They will sign him and give him his fighters on the dates but Floyd aside no one else had dates of their own to service a full roster of fighters.
