There is nothing wrong with close fights. Like you said, its normal when your fighting the best. Delahoya had multiple close fights against top fighters such as Whitaker, Mosley, Quartey, but having close fights didn't hinder his status. He is a living legend. Only haters dwell on close fights.
Chavez Jr has never been this motivated. It's his chance to be rid of a lot of demons, be his own man. I'm looking for maximum effort from him.
