Lopez at 154 is just going to be overpowered. The other thing is, Canelo's fighting on Showtime at the MGM Grand. You don't headline cards like that if you want to develop, you either fight on low profile cards or you get a spot on an undercard to a big fight. You're also forgetting that Marquez's fight wasn't hyped up. He was meant to be fighting on a big PPV this month but they couldn't get a decent opponent and he dropped out and chose to fight on a smaller card in Mexico. Compare that to Oscar and Schaefer hyping this Canelo fight up. They act like he's a big superstar already (and probably is in Mexico) so if you do that expect to get the criticism when you take on a sub-par overweight opponent.
Hang on, this card is going to be on CBS which is a terrestrial channel in the US. Imagine if Khan fought a superfeather on ITV in a light-welterweight title defence?
Some guy on GF is claiming Thurman will step to plate, Wouldn't mind that personally although maybe to early for Keith he brings bad intentions and more of a threat then Lopez. May be BS, But tbh lads this is why i don't watch Canelo fight. I've only watched one bout in last two and half years. Have no interest in his career..
The fact that Alvarez has star power is quite irrelevant. Fair enough if it's true that Marquez was supposed to have been fighting a tougher opponent but so was Alvarez in Ortiz who you cannot deny is actually a hell of a fighter. It's not the biggest test but hell he did just beat Ortiz and is a named world champ, yeah he's a big underdog but it's still an ok fight on paper if you take that into consideration. Plus Alvarez is actually very active for a fighter at his level in todays game. No other guy at his age is fighting the fights he is. If it is on terrestrial then that could help make him into boxing's next big star.
