I mean he handled Canelo well enough to earn the decision (in the viewing publics eyes) twice so I believe his hype was well earned. It also earned him two massive paydays and 3 other fights where he headlined PPV. Throw in his silver medal and stellar amateur career and I’d say that he’s lived up to the hype. Soon GGG will be gone and retired.
I cannot stand Canelo because of his dubious decisions. His 155 pound weight class and his duck of prime GGG. That said, he semi redeemed himself in the 2nd GGG fight because he stood his ground and even became the aggressor. So he did win back some respect, but his flat out duck of GGG makes his legacy an uphill battle. As for GGG I rated the guy. He was fun to watch. And hes still dangerous even at 36. But I really dont think he cares about anything other than making cash.
I think the GGG fans whining and crying robbery over a close fight hhave made this place a cesspool over the last couple of days. The Canelo fans are riding high, into the sunset with icei cold modelos living that good life!
A lot of these people arent GGG fans any more than they are Canelo fans. It just sucks seeing the wrong guy get the decision. Especially twice, and especially for the MW title, one of boxings glamour divisions. Tarnishes the sports legacy. Keeps casual fans from becoming hardcore fans and keeps non-fans from becoming fans at all. Every boxing gym ive trained at since i was 8 is now an MMA gym where guys work on their boxing as a side thing and i when we do spar, it includes legs/mostly muay thai. When i talk about boxing, i hear stuff like 'its like WWE', and 'Boxing is dead'. WIth decisions like saturday, its no wonder. Canelo didnt get it handed to him, he fought back, but he definitely lost both nights. GGG's style is just a bad one for Canelo.
