One glaring difference, though I think Khan is a better fighter than MOST give him credit for. GGG is NOT ONLY the Champion begging his CONTENDERS to step up, ie Jacobs, Quillen, Sturm, Pirog, Cotto, Canelo, Sergio, Chavez Jr, BJS, etc etc etc, he is ALSO the rightful HEIR to the WBC and LINEAL title no matter who is holding it hostage ATM. Khan, OTOH, is a contender who hasnt done all that much since his defeat to Garcia. Now, not saying he should enforce that mandate he has with Garcia, but he'd have a MUCH better chance at winning that rematch as opposed to winning the PAPER MW title Canelo is holding for Golvkin. And Khan does come across as whiny and did waste time on Mayweather, Alexanders time as well. It'd be like BJS agreeing to a Sept fight while GGG chases Canelo, but instead, loses both opportunities. Also, Khan is a glass jawed WW. Canelo is a heavy handed MW. Canelo already proved he can punch when he beat the shiit outta Kirkland. Koing Khan aint gonna prove anything.:-(
Won the middleweight title off a welterweight, ducks a mandatory to defend against another welterweight. Agreed, he needs to be stripped ASAP. Quillin might have ducked GGG but he still fought other middleweights. This is beyond the pale. I thought Canelo was just going to fight a junior middleweight, not even a top junior middleweight like Andrade, or Charlo, but I didn't expect him to go fishing at welterweight for a middleweight title fight.
I doubt Canelo cares too much about a silly belt. Its nice to have on your resume, but when you've made it to the top and all roads lead to you, a belt isn't the driving force at that point, its the dollars... Now don't take me wrong, if Canelo starts making his fortune fighting smaller men, or has beens then he won't be any better than someone like Mayweather, but a BIG MONEY fight in between legacy building is fine with me, as we know 99.9% of all boxers do it for the prize, including 3G.
I don't like either of these fights, but the fact remains that they agreed to negotiate for fall, and have one tune-up fight prior to it. I can't begrudge Alvarez for maximizing his payday in that fight, or for GGG for taking out a mandatory. I'm not excited, but it is what it is. No need to go overboard about it.
No better than mayweather? The mayweather who already beat the **** out of canelo who everyone is saying is too big to fight welters?
Never seen that fight.. Mayweather beat the **** out of Canelo?? I thought he was skipping around like a fairy.
We all have and are entitled to our own opinions, so if some of us feel the need to go "overboard" with it, we can.:hi:
But I will go out of my way to give credit to Andre Ward, who has the toughest stay-busy fight scheduled this spring by a wide margin. :thumbsup :thumbsup
Technically speaking, he hasn't ducked a mandatory. In fact his mandatory willingly agreed to allow him a voluntary. So it's a bit premature to claim he's ducked a mandatory, when he hasn't as yet. :smoke
