Kovalev was outboxing Canelo until the stoppage. Not that it made any difference to the judges, with two of them having Canelo ahead and the other having it level. That's the why the actual result of this fight is not in the least bit interesting. It's really more about the performance. Because BJS isn't going to KO Canelo and even if he somehow manages to put on some Calzaghe vs Lacy level of schooling, the best he can hope for will be a draw. Then even if by some miracle he does land a punch from the gods and sparks Canelo, he will probably get DQ'd.
What absolute BS ... If BJ's puts a clinic on canelo he will get the decision....you make it sound like canelo gets battered from pillar to post and still wins...he got a very dodgy score off one judge v Mayweather now everyone thinks he just has to turn up and wins...it's bollox
He shouldn't need to put on a clinic to get the win. He should simply be the better man over the 12 rounds. But that wouldn't get him the win.
Garbage... The worst judging I've seen in recent years is here in UK .....now you really do need to put on a clinic here to get a draw If BJ's fights better than canelo he will win
And that, in a nutshell, is the issue many have had with Alvarez over the years, you can't just beat him, you have to wait to do something that rarely happens in World Title fights of such magnitude.
Well said. One of the judges had the first GGG/Canelo fight 10-2 to Canelo ffs. There can be no explanation for a card like that other than corruption. And GGG is a much bigger name, with a much higher profile than BJS. A judge even only gave Mayweather a draw after he one every round. So BJS has no chance on the cards.
I have a feeling that you're only saying that in case Saunders does actually beat him but gets robbed. I don't think that in a million years you'd want to admit that he got robbed. You'd want to stick by the farfetched and unfounded stance that the judging was sound. See Erik's post above. It's ludicrous to expect sound officiating.
If you are a judge in a stadium with 70 thousand fans cheering every punch whether it hits arms ,gloves or face it will sway your opinion...thats just the way it is i am all for judging reform btw
We all saw Golovkin do more than enough to win and end up with a draw. I think the point being made is that BJS can't just win by winning, he has to put it a truly undeniable performance to take it on the points and at this level against an opponent like Alvarez that is extremely hard to do.
The fact is nobody has put in that kind of performance against Canelo ..... Theres an argument GGG and Lara should have beat him Mayweather didnt get beat on cards did he
That's called incompetence ffs. You're displaying an odd level of lenience for someone who is all for a judging reform. Not being that incompetent would be a good start. But let's not pretend that these judges are swayed by cheers more than they are imbursement.
I actually do think sometimes 1 judge has been bought......then it only take 1 fair judge to call a draw and its a draw etc
Why would the powers at be only ensure one card is predetermined? Boxing is ruled by money, even more than most sports, and is, for all intents and purposes, unregulated. The boxing match and outcome is only a minute execution of an almost endless web of commercial underhand. Too many people are getting paid too much money for certain cash cows to lose. And then we have to listen to condescending, sanctimonious, religious speeches from certain cash cows, in "victory", as if everybody is stupid and blind.
