What bothers me about GGG is why didn't he go out on his shield? Why didn't he take risks? And why didn't he ever explain to his fans what happend? All he said was something in the post fight press conference about how he may have used the wrong strategy or something. What we can say is that the decision to hire Banks as his trainer sure ended up being a catastrophic fail. If GGG was executing Banks gameplan against Canelo was the maybe the worst gameplan ever. To just do nothing for 8 rounds, get beat up then start fighting in round 9. What kind of a gameplan is that? Where was the jab? Where was the pumping of the jab over the first 8 rounds? GGG was just standing there like a scared girl, sure he blocked some punches but he wasn't throwing enough. I mean I get trying to take it to the late rounds and wait for Canelo to tire, but you can't just do that little and just cover-up mostly for the first 2/3s of the fight. Where was the piston like jab that gave Canelo so many problems supposedly? It was a horrible gameplan from Banks, or horrible execution of it by GGG. It doesn't make any sense because GGG looked pretty good in the fight before he fought Canelo. Against Canelo in the 3rd fight he just all of a sudden got cold feet and decided not to come to fight. It was embarrassing, and it sucks for GGG fans. That's not the way anyone wanted to see GGG go out. Then on top of that, GGG vacates his MW Titles. GGG was well liked for his fan friendly style, his fighting spirit, his aggression, his big punching power, his dedication to collecting and defending bells. All that, everything GGG supposedly stood for and what fans respected him for went completely out the window over the last year.
We can argue back & forth till doomsday wont change a thing. All I ever wanted to see was Floyd prove he had a set , like a man would have, & fight the guy the fans all wanted him to fight after he'd crushed Cotto & made him take to his knees & QUIT!!!!!!! If he'd done that & he'd legitimately beaten Margarito I would willingly have congratulated him & called him a Champion. BUT!! We all know Floyd is basically a coward. He admitted that himself when he said " Theyre calling me a coward, ok so I'm a coward, but I'm a rich coward". Both Floyd & Canelo had talent, but talent alone is not enough. A real champion has to have a champions cojones to complete the package. BOTH Floyd & Canelo proved when the chips were down NEITHER had those necessaries
Nothing wrong with that. We all wanted to see Floyd vs Margarito. The problem was when he got caught (fair or not) for the loaded gloves, then Floyd had the excuse he needed that you can't blame him for ducking him because he was cheating, etc. Honestly CJ I heard your side of the story and I'm not sure what to think about the Margarito situation. While you're very enthusiastic about defending Antonio, in situations like this it's very difficult to reverse a narrative when the sports media gets behind something and becomes invested in it being true. A big problem you have is trying to lump Floyd in with Canelo. Canelo has taken a far different approach than Mayweather. Truth is I liked Mayweather when he was coming up, had respect for him when he retired in 2007. But in the 2010s when he changed his persona to Money Mayaweather he became greedy, A-side happy and by the time he retired I lost a lot of respect for him. Still respect what he did in the sport, but lost respect for him as a man and an ambassador of boxing which I thought he was in the 2000s. Canelo has taken over and been a better example for the sport than Floyd was. The way the fights, in a fan friendly style, the fact that he takes on the toughest challenges out there, becoming Undisputed, etc. These are all things that Floyd had the opportunity to do and didn't do. I get the issues some people have with Canelo, particularly when he was with DLH. (dropping the belt, fighing at 155 for a while, etc) I get all that but since he's been with Eddie Hearn he's done pretty much everything you could ask for. He deserve credit for how he's evolved and all he has accomplished. He's not like Floyd CJ. Canelo is not selfish, money hungry, like Floyd was, he's a very generous A-side. He gave Saunders a 22 foot ring, he fought on PBC and gave Plant more $$, he fought Bivol at 175, etc.
Yeah, it was just sad. Almost as though he wasn't going to risk getting hurt. It doesn't tarnish his legacy for mine, although a win over Canelo would have been the cherry on top but jeez I am sorry I paid the money on PPV to watch it.
Why can’t we just let a win be a win…Why call someone a punching bag for 8 Rounds or say it was a blowout/-That’s just not fair…A win is a win Cough cough—Bivol/ Canelo thread—Sounds like someone is talking out both sides of his mouth and his Wet V Spot is hurt
From Shadow on me saying Bivol smoked and had a wide win over Canelo But it’s fine to call GGG a punching bag—I swear this kid is on the spectrum. @The Real Lance “So I suggest sticking to the "Bivol won clearly" story rather than the "Bivol won wide" story. And the distinction is important because fighters who arecompetitive in a losing effort should be respected. It's disrespectful to just crap on a fighter who cameto fight and produced an entertaining fight. Like Ryder for example, there's no need to humiliateRyder and act like he didn't belong in the ring withCanelo. It was fairly one-sided at times, but it was still a great fight and Ryder had his moments. Canelo Bivol was fairly one-sided at times also, but the difference is that Canelo was never hurt, whileRyder was a bloody mess, was knocked down once, then again later in the fight but it was ruled a slip. That's all that really needs to be said in fights like that. There's no need to exaggerate the scoring or humiliate a fighter who lost but who went the distance. We don't have to agree with the judges, but I maintain that they should be respected far more than they are.”
Simple - Canelo came to fight against Bivol. GGG didn't come to fight against Canelo the 3rd time. GGG did practically nothing for 8 rounds. Canelo took the fight to Bivol in rounds 1-4, forcing Bivol to go to the ropes and cover up. Canelo was loading up with big shots, bicep bombs, body shots, etc. Completely different amount of respect is earned when a fighter comes to fight, loads up, than a fighter who came for a paycheck and to survive like GGG did in the 3rd fight. Yes Canelo gassed in the mid-rounds but still put on an entertaining fight. Canelo utilized various strategies throughout the fight, set traps, made Bivol miss, which produced entertaining action throught, even in the rounds he was losing. GGG did not come to fight, did not make the fight fun to watch. GGG fought the most stylistically boring and ineffective way possible. Canelo took risks against Bivol, he did gas late but he came to fight unlike GGG.
Canelo "I will end his career" also Canelo * does nothing * Talk about a damp squib with a big mouth that couldn;t get it in gear against an old man.
So your argument is that it was Canelo who did nothing in that fight? Really? Seriously?? Who do you think you're fooling? And, it seems that Canelo did end GGG's career. Will GGG ever fight again? He vacated his Unified Middleweight Titles and we haven't heard a peep out of the G Man since. Was Canelo prophetic? I know you like to point out that Canelo set out to stop GGG and couldn't. But the other side of that is that Canelo apparently got into GGG's head. After all, GGG came to survive. GGG's entire gameplan seemingly revolved around not wanting to be stopped, even if that meant not putting up a fight. GGG didn't come to fight, he came to survive. And don't just take my word for it. Lets take a look at the sports media press releases describing quite clearly what happened in the matchup : https://www.dazn.com/en-US/news/box...-results-highlights/4u718ic7n6at1dx3i8u352bec CANELO BLOWS OUT GGG TO REMAIN UNDISPUTED SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION "Alvarez put a stamp on boxing's most bitter rivalry in recent memory, dominating Golovkin from start to finish with his speed and power to win by unanimous decision (116-112, 115-113, 115-113) to remain the undisputed super middleweight champion from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. DAZN had the scores differently, with Canelo winning 117-111. " "Canelo came out a man on a mission to prove he was the better of the two. His shots were more explosive, his lateral movement was quicker, and the Mexican star was beating Golovkin to the draw at every turn. The fast start made Golovkin tentative and unwilling to unleash the arsenal, which made GGG at one point, boxing's most dangerous puncher. Father time had finally come for GGG." "Alvarez was moving Golovkin back, marking up his face and taking the fight like no one had ever done in the legendary career of the reigning unified middleweight champion." By the time GGG got going in the later rounds, it was too little, too late, and the chapter was definitively closed on the Canelo vs. GGG rivalry. Round 3 summary : GGG starts the round with a jab. Exchange of jabs. A left by GGG and Canelo counters with a left of his own. Another left hook by Canelo. Redness is already starting to show on GGG's face. A stinging jab from GGG. A flurry from Alvarez punctuated by a straight right. A stinging jab from Canelo. Canelo is applying a ton of pressure. GGG needs to find an answer and in a hurry. Round 5 : Right sends GGG back. An overhand right shook GGG. A right to the body. Round 6 : GGG needs to be more active and in a hurry because he's entering dangerous territory.
You answered your own question. GGG didn't come to fight so he wouldn't be KTFO. He fought like a scared girl, he came to cover-up, he came to survive. He didn't give the fans a BIG DRAMA SHOW!!
Did Canelo send GGG into retirement? Haven't heard a peep outta that dude since September. All we heard was that he dropped his belts. GGG went from #GiveMeMyBelt To --> #TakeMyBelts!
