You're feeding into GGG fan mythology with this topic. The rollercoaster of GGG trying to get the WBC to force Canelo's hand in 2016 failed, and it probably caused GGG to become discouraged and he became unhealthy which was visible when he fought Kell Brook. GGG thought he could get the WBC to bully Canelo or his team. It didn't work. Taking a hypothetical scenario of a 2016 fight is only going to feed into GGG fans who use age as an excuse for why GGG lost. Look at your poll it's 25-0. The very next year they fought, it was a draw, GGG fans screamed robbery, GGG complained Canelo didn't fight Mexican style. The rest is history. Canelo won the GGG war, GGG fans are bitter. GGG went from Prime looking and dominant in early 2016 to slipping later that year when he fought Brook precisely after the fight was put on hold. Maybe GGG should have stayed in the gym and not become so unhealthy, then his fans wouldn't still be crying about how he turned from prime into an old man in the middle of 2016.

Show me where I lied or STFU.

Canelo called out Golovkin after the Khan fight. He said and I quote, " let's put the belts aside and fight for honor".

Golovkin had talked a big game and said anyone between 154-168.

When Canelo who at that point had never fought at the 160 limit called Golovkin's bluff of anyone between 154-168, Golovkin changed his tune and said 160 or nothing. Canelo vacated and when he was ready for the jump came and signed to fight GGG a year and a half later.

Let me ask you, do you also hold GGG to the same standards you hold Canelo? If you do, how do you feel about GGG demanding a catchweight for Ward instead of fighting him at the full SMW limit?

It could also feed into Canelo fan mythology if they believe Canelo was thefbbest MW in the world from when he beat Cotto, so again, it world both ways.

At that point Canelo had not had a single fight above 155.

Makes no difference. He'd beaten the lineal MW champion in the world, so the thread is about the lineal MW champion.

It makes all the difference actually.

Canelo wasn't interested in the WBC or Lineal MW title, he was interested in fighting Cotto. He had been chasing Cotto for years but Cotto never gave him the opportunity. When Cotto decided to give young Canelo a shot it just happened that Cotto (who is no real MW) was holding the WBC and Lineal title he got from his money fight against Martinez.

Considering that Canelo's priority at that time wasn't to move up and conquer MW yet, but instead it was to fight Cotto, you can't fault him for dropping the title.

If you want to have an honest debate I'm all for it, if you just want to cry about Canelo, its been 4 years, its boring now.

My question is do you criticize Golovkin for failing to fight quality fighters despite claiming he would fight anyone between 154-168? I mean he had the opportunity to fight Trout at 154, Lara at 154, Ward at 168, Charlo at 160, Andrade at 154 and 160, Ramirez at 168, but he never even uttered their names, in fact the only two times they did mention names it was to say they would never fight Charlo, and that they were not fighting Ward.

Few things wrong with this post.

    1) im not crying over Canelo he's the P4P number 1 fighter in the world.

    2) Canelo was the lineal MW champ, Golovkin was his number 1 contender. That's why I made the match for 2016.

    3) I don't need to criticise Golovkin for staying in his weight class, I've no problem with fighters who do that.

    4) what you're posting has no relevance to the thread. Either you think Canelo wins in 2016, or Golovkin, your call.

    1. There's a lot of crying going on in here so I apologize if I thought you were one of them.

    2. The thread has morphed into a few different topics. But to stay on the original topic, in 2016 Golovkin was a career MW, while Canelo had been fighting at 154 for about five years, his highest weight being 155. So considering that Canelo was a career Super WW, and Golovkin was a career MW, was the #1 and Champion at MW you'd have to make GGG the favorite. With that said I don't see much difference between a 2016 Canelo and GGG and a 2017 Canelo and GGG.

    3. I do, I disliked Jones Jr for a long time simply because he wouldn't move up or down when his weight class sucked balls, and I especially don't like when a fighter talk big, but doesn't mean what he says, I find it disrespectful to the fans. GGG always raved about fighting at 154-168, and he cried about no one wanting to fight him, yet never made an attempt to give top fighters the opportunity to fight him unless they came with mega paydays and he had advantages over them.

    4. Refer to point #2, I see the same type of fight in 2016 from 2017.

I also apologise if I thought you were crying.

So you'd make the challenger the favourite to wrestle the WBC and Lineal belts, that's how I see it also.

Nah, boxers always say things they don't mean. It's what they do in the ring that counts, and a career in a division is fine with me. Hagler, Monzon for example. I ajve zero issue with it.
