Kovalev wasn’t just throwing pity pat shots like people keep saying, he threw heavy punches but Canelo kept making him miss and would fire right back. Seriously people just go back and watch the first 4 rounds and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
It's true, but ive never seen Kovalev miss by miles like that, he was all over the places, sloppy.. not on target.. canelo didnt look overly illusive.
Canelo's defense is great as always. But Kov shortening his range shots and cuffing really flattered Canelo, who was also passive for the most part.
Please don’t say that, you will hurt a lot of feelings here. There were invisible chains that stopped Kovalev from throwing punches. You can clearly see De La Hoya holding him back. This was a cherry pick that Alvarez shouldn’t have won.
This, they knew Kovalev was way past it, thats why they chose him. Multiple coaches, fighters like Roach or Ward knew Kovalev was done.
A few people have said it was like watching Paulie M hitting the pads on a Sunday afternoon and I agree apart from Paulie probably hits harder than what kovalev was dishing out. The krusher couldn't crush a ****ing grape.
He wasn't putting a lot behind his punches in the Eleider Alvarez rematch, to be fair. Seems his M.O under Buddy was to rely on jab and workrate to win fights.
To be fair, he actually was winning the fight until he got stopped, on sheer workrate and the jab. Even this over the hill version of Kovalev wasn't useless. But he also wasn't a patch on his prime form, and I think that weight draining and the quick turnaround from the Yarde fight were the nails in the coffin.
People seem to be very short on boxing intelligence on this boxing forum. Kovalev sacrificed power for speed and he was still having a difficult time landing. He could've swung for the fences from the get go, leaving himself wide open and gassing out much sooner
