Slamming Canelo over refusing to fight Benavidez is stupid IMO. It wont accomplish anything and certainly wont spur him to take the match. Nearly every guy who has ever been champion at the top of the food chain has ducked at one point or another. For example, -Ali most famously ducked the Foreman rematch -Foreman ducked Holmes twice, both in his first career and 2nd in the 90's -Joshua outright admitted he ducked Wilder -Jermell keeps ducking Tszyu -Bowe threw his belts in the trash rather than fight Lewis (a duck) -Tyson ducked Holyfield and Lewis for years -Lewis ducked the Vitali rematch -Bivol keeps ducking Beterbiev when there's no reason why he should, but he's rarely called out over it -Mayweather ducked more people than the aforementioned guys combined None of their careers were negatively impacted over not fighting 1 guy and the same will be true for Canelo, whether he ends up fighting Benavidez or not, win or lose.
He aged GGG like a top shelf Shiraz - ie for as long as possible. He can't age Benavidez as he is younger.
I I'm not slamming Canelo, just stating facts - he won't fight him because he is scared everyone will see his real level once and for all.
You listed a bunch of rematches where the fighter the first fight? That is not in the same universe as canelo ducking the top guy in his own division for years. Not only is Benavidez the top opponent, he is the most in demand fight that the fans want to see and the most lucrative fight for Canelo. It literally ticks every single box. I can't think of a worse duck in modern boxing to be honest. its laughably blatant.
Eh, I understand boxing just fine and I'll be picking Videz when they fight. Its a great matchup that Canelo could certainly win, but in no way is picking Videz showing that someone doesn't know boxing. If anything I'd say the reverse is more true here.
I think Canelo is just letting people steam a bit. I wager he fights him in 2024 if they both keep winning. If Canelo doesn't fight him it goes up there as one of the worst ducks in modern history though obviously.
Canelo aged him out? He's about 7 years older than Benavidez. Benavidez is so ferocious, accurate, dangerous and he's bigger than Bivol. The issue is Canelo probably knows he'd have a low chance of winning the fight and it wouldn't be an an easy, cruisy 12 round loss, it'd be brutal and bludgeoning. I'm a Canelo fan btw.
