Canelo's approach to middleweight could cost him

I think his team thought they could avoid GGG yes. Basically they have tried to cash in as much as they can with fights like Cotto and Khan which were big names who were beatable.

Exactly. Business-wise, they had a good plan to fight 'easier' fights for big money. But now that they're almost forced to fight GGG, they realize they're at a disadvantage.

 

People are going to be surprised when Canelo counters the hell out of GGG and eventually stops him. GGG isn't fighting off his back foot, and Canelo trhives against come forward fighters.

 

God, you really don't have a clue ... you think GGG is a one dimesional fighter? He can go on the back foot if its to his advantage & he can counter ask Lemieux & will out jab Alvarez into next year, if need be, he can & does adapt ... Its possible that a draw could happen but doubtful, what in your opinion has Alvarez have that will stop GGG...boxing skills beyond his abilty, no. He could get caught as Khan did & yes Alvarez is a very good finisher ,but I think GGG's concentration is a bit better than Khan's ...won't happen! No Alvarez IS getting Knocked out...if he actually fights GGG...MEH!:admin

 

I'll be one of those surprised people if that actually happens. I see it being the other way around, without the counters and a devastating KO.

 

Gennady isn't some brute that rushes in. He's always a step ahead of his opponent, playing games, throwing pitty-pat punches to see the reaction, going high, going low ... Canelo will have to be on tip top form just to go the distance. There's no way Ginger stops him :bart

Regardless of who you feel wins people are seriously overrating GGG's ability and underrating Alvarez's.

 

Dude, Golovkin has long ****** arms. He can fight from a distance and still punch with brutal power. Golovkin will soften him up with body shots and then it's lights out. Canelo is a dead man walking.

This is actually a very interesting fight

There are a few things to consider here. You have to look at what each man's strengths are and what their weaknesses are.

For Canelo it is most obvious to see what his weaknesses are since we've seen him against real top level opposition who have exploited his weaknesses. Canelo has a more difficult time against fighters who fight off the back foot, one-two punchers who land quick little one-twos and quickly use their feet to escape the counter. We saw Lara run more than he has ever ran before, we saw Trout get dropped for the first time, and we all saw Cotto fighting on his toes more than we've ever seen from him. All these fighters found more success against Canelo than fighters who attempted to match Canelo's punching @rsenal.

Fortunately for Canelo, in his fight against GGG he will not have to worry about having to chase a fighter down, reaching to land his punches minimizing their effectiveness, or waiting for a fighter to open up, and his mediocre ring-cutting skills will not be an issue in this fight since we know GGG doesn't and will not be fighting off the back foot.

For Golovkin it will be a little harder to gauge what his weaknesses are because frankly his level of opposition has been terrible, and for the unskilled eye, or the casual fan, Golovkin looks like a monster. One of GGGs apparent weakness is his mediocre defense , and his speed. Even C level fighters have been able to land very clean on Golovkin. Lemieux, and Monroe just two examples had success landing on GGG. Monroe being a C level fighter and Lemieux being a solid B level guy with huge flaws but against his B level and C level peers he excels most but not all of the time.

Also, aside GGGs defensive holes and speed, another one of his weaknesses is his lack of experience against fighters who are complete or elite. All of GGGs opponents have been so flawed it may present him a problem once he's in the ring with a fighter who is accurate, has good defense, a good chin, and speed all combined. GGG has never fought anyone that is terribly good, with Lemieux being his best opponent.

GGG's best chance at beating Canelo is to impose himself on him and punish him with his thunderous short hooks.

Canelo's best chance at beating GGG is to use his good head and waist movement to slip GGGs hooks and using his speed, and explosiveness to counter him to the body and head. Canelo will definitely be doing his usual body attack to set up his straight rights or overhand rights.

GGG has never faced a fighter with a body attack like Canelo's or with a fighter with Canelo's counter punching ability and explosiveness.

Here's the main unasnwered question. How does Canelo look against a solid MW lb fighter? Against huge Jr.MW like Kirkland and Angulo, and to a degree Trout and even Lara he looked strong and powerful. If he looks the same 5 lbs north I can see GGG having a hell of a difficult time getting his offense going with Canelo countering and making GGG pay when he opens up like he usually does.

 

Who says he won't? And what's the difference?
