I thought Bivol would be too basic for Canelo, but Bivols fundamentals were just too strong. I think he is just too smart to lose to Canelo and unlike his previous opponents he doesn't gas out

This is a wake-up call for Canelo. He's not unbeatable. He won't be given the nod in a fight that is semi competitive and that goes the distance. He was lazy, a little reliant on dodgy judging and simply in with an elite level young, well-schooled boxer.

Eat humble pie and come out prepared to lay it on the line. Be extra busy. Extra vigilant and maybe he's in with a shot.

No chance. His style relies on being the the quicker fighter.

Against Trout, Lara and Plant he could make up for that somewhat with his physicality and play the aggressor role.

But here against Bivol he was the slower man, the weaker man, and actually looked like the less powerful man.

He had a good round 9, but the rest of the fight indicates he has no chance against Bivol.

Huge credit if he takes that rematch.

I thought Bivol too was a little basic, but he's tough as nails and makes perfect decisions. That's where his x factor is: flawless execution.

I think it's quite high. Hearn will not skimp on the judges pay the next time

It’s hard to see him winning a rematch. Bivol had an answer for everything Canelo did in this fight. Canelo is set in his ways and that was working so well for him up until this point. It’s going to be hard for him to mix it up and start boxing different now. Bivol wins again

Canelo is used to breaking down his opponents with heavy hands, either knocking them out or beating the fight out of them. It's a perfectly good way to approach most fights evidently, but as he climbed the divisions there would always be a limit to the effectiveness of this style. Knowing his power isn't enough to take out Bivol, his only real chance is to adopt a more 'volume over power' approach, sharp fast punching over thunderous power punches. I don't think he beats Bivol either way though.

'Canelo Alvarez is expected to earn a staggering $53million for his title clash with Dmitry Bivol tonight while his rival will earn a career-high payday of around $5m.

The 31-year-old will enjoy another bumper payday with a guaranteed $15m payday which is expected to rise to $53m in line with pay-per-view revenue and gate takings.

Bivol will earn around $2m guaranteed which could later increase to $5m after revenue from the fight is calculated. This will be a career-high payday for the Russian with his highest previous purses coming at $500,000 against Craig Richards and Umar Salamov in his last two outings.''

This is a big money for fight both boxers. Canelo is due to earn a guaranteed $40 million while also claiming 60% of PPV proceeds, per multiple reports. Plant is slated to earn a guaranteed $10 million plus 40% of PPV proceeds.

BJS 2.0 reputedly walked away with $8 mill

'Callum Smith make guaranteed purse for this fight upto $4 million and it will increase maximum to $7.5 million based on pay-per-view share

Why did Bivol who has made seven defences of his world title and has fought the better competition out of all of them get paid the least? Why did Plant earn so much when he has fought janitors and dog trainers?

Bivol wants the terms redone for the rematch, says they agreed to all Clen's demands

Just has to make the fight close enough to rob Bivol.

He *could* do that but I I think Bivol is just too big and too good for him and would most likely school him again.

Here are my thoughts on how he could sneak a win:

He wasted a ton of energy and left himself open to take damage by throwing hard looping hooks to the bicep. It didn't work, throw that strategy out.

Also throw out the playing possum thing, he's gone to that well too many times. I would replace it with pretending to be aggressive, walk forward but stay out of range and make it look like Bivol is running. The biggest weakness Bivol showed is being willing to let Canelo fight at whatever pace he wanted. He's always extended his opponents that courtesy.

More straight punches along with uppercuts which also seemed to work. Jab (double jab?) on the way in. Do Mayweather-style elbow and forearm stuff on the inside.

Bivol did bite hard on some feints so more of those.

Not sure if this would work for real, but if the judges thought that was a 7-5 fight this could get him those last two rounds and decrease the chance of a KO.

With the first 4 rounds pre-filled, all Canelo had to do was win 2 genuine rounds to win the fight. That just goes to show the schooling that Bivol put on him.

Good news, in a rematch Moretti and the rest of the squad will sort the first 6, so the frustrated ginger just needs to turn up to win.
