You think by saying your a fan of Oscar that what you say is the truth? I am a fan of Boxing and what Oscar did early on in that fight is Typical Mayweather work.

he also refered to a Mayweather fight after during his interview, "no Sweat" right, look he basicly did what FMJ does, he stayed in that Cross over defense and allowed Vargas to hit shoulders forearms and gloves, Sure Vargas appeared stronger early it looked like he was getting to Oscar but he wasnt, that red mark in the 1st round was simply from one shot, even that first round though Vargas had a big finish in it, Oscar still won it on my card becuase he won the first two and a half mins.

Sorry but Oscar dominated that fight the early going of course vargas Looked like he was going to do something but that was a look, what was the out come? Vargas ran out of Gas, as was planned by De La hoya and he got knocked out, which may have not been in their plans but why not take it when its there?

Vargas' chin was by no means weak...It was actually pretty good IMO He got stopped by Tito, DLH, and Mosley....and so did Mayo...not saying his chin was as good as Mayo's but it wasn't weak at all...

ah, so i did. I thought i'd edited it in.. but guess not! hah.

Ike Quartey... he always went down fairly competitively (except Winky.. that was classic Winky!).. with some resistance.... and only lost to top-fighters!

Much like Rocky Juarez in that respect... gets beaten & outclassed as the fight goes on, by world champions who are on another level to him.. but still hangs in there!

    1 year lay-off lol.
Oscar's lay-offs pre-Vargas & Mayorga were way worse than that, iirc.
    Even pre-Gatti... after Oscar-Mosley I.

That was always one of my qualms with Oscar… apart from him not using his jab more & not looking to up that cardio so that it lasted into the last few rounds… some of the dude’s inactivities were ridiculous. But when he makes more than enough to maintain his lifestyle by having just 1 fight a year… & he didn’t wanna go through too many training camps.. well, he’s the boxer.. I’m just a faceless internet charlatan! xD

He was hurt by Winky who is not known for being a puncher, he was hurt by Quartey I beleive in the 9th round, He was dropped and basicly out by former Jr Welter weight Rivera

Fair point about being a fan... I was just pre-empting 'Oscar-hater'. Which seems to be common online... either ultra pro-oscar or (more common) ultra anti!

As I said before, I've always felt Vargas' cardio had let him down. He was physically-imposing (as I'll say for the n^th time.. but he was never in the best shape he could possibly be in!.. he was a tad fat hah).

I don't disagree that the plan was to let Vargas tire... but what I'm saying is Oscar did get bullied more than they would have liked. Beatdown was definitely an overstatement... bullied would've been more appropriate.

& yes, even though they landed on the shoulders & arms... that shock, from a larger slugger like Vargas... that still takes a bit out of you... + by the end of the day, for the most part in the early rounds... who was getting hurt more? Oscar... that's all I meant. Vargas was competitive.

Mayorga on the other hand got gracefully smacked around...!

Yea I thought Ike had him in the 9th...I remeber that...Ike knocked his mouthpiece out I think...but Fernando came right back and won the 10th I think...he was a little chinny, but he had a hell of a heart...

    Anyways, point remains.

Mayorga lost to all his notable opponents EXCEPT Vernon Forrest (where he does deserve his props!).

Vargas on the other hand has better victories to his name overall!

in a fight though, primes.. It goes either way. But 60/40 I favour Mayorga in ONE HELLUVA FIGHT every single time.

I understand why you would think Vargas beats Mayorga if they were both in their prime becuase Vargas shown at a young age to have world class potential and he could have gone further much further if better managed and he himself wasnt in a hurry to prove he was better than Oscar that is what ****ed his career up.

Vargas did have the better skills of the two, However what Mayorga brings to the table is a style that does not allow you to set your feet the looping wide shots he throws are from odd angels and he can crack and take a shot, with that attitude of not giving a **** about the other man I say Vargas gets brutalized here.

Yes De la hoya did Mayorga in, nobody can deny that, but this was after Mayorgas smoking caught the better of him which is exactly why I beleive that since his rematch with Forrest he fell off.

you put in the Vargas that fought Trinidad vs the Mayorga that fought Forrest in fight 1 and you have a ****ing all out war, but I think Mayorgas style is what makes this his fight, and Vargas can easily be tempted into an all out shoot out.

Mayorga was also past his best and fighting at a ridicolous high weight that only helped Vargas.
    Just saying.

i picked mayorga simply because i think he achieved more than he should have done talent wise while i think vargas could have achieved more
