To be fair you make it seem like he tryed but failed , what actually happened is his father wasn't going to be allowed to be his trainer and as such Calzaghe pulled out of the trials altogether .
No ? Robin Reid was picked instead of Calzaghe. The main reason being, and this is no joke, becuse Reid is English and Calzaghe is Welsh. The English ABA basically owns the Welsh ABA in terms of policies, funding etc... Calzaghe was very bitter about it which led to him turning pro. Your right tho, its not like Calzaghe even attended the trials.
