One of the reasons most people hate him is that he's an arrogant guy with mediocre talent. I mean, we can stomach arrogance when it comes from a guy who just has otherworldly talent like a Lebron James or a Mayweather. But when it comes from a guy who just doesn't have it...well, we want to see that guy being humble. We want to hear him talk about heart, guts and determination...like Rocky. But for some strange reason, Froch actually believes that he some great boxing talent. Really, he even fights like that. He drops his hands like he a prime Roy Jones. The only problem is he's too slow and he always ends up getting cracked in that ugly mug of his.
He has the best resume out of a bunch of guys with weak resumes. Taylor/Pascal/Dirrell is only marginally impressive at best. Froch beat Taylor less convincingly than Abraham or Pavlik, and needed a last round, last second KO to do it. Pascal never held a major title at SMW and is rated only because he has picked up a belt in the much weaker LHW division. Dirrell is now considered a good win because he gave Abraham a hiding. Everyone ignores the fact that he was a virtual unknown when Froch fought him, without a single name on his resume and only 18 professional fights. Many people here didn't even think he deserved a spot in the tournament. Froch got him in the best possible circumstances (Dirrells first title fight, first fight overseas, in his opponents back yard, big step up in class) and still only pulled off a split decision largely on the basis of Dirrell making the fight ugly, rather than anything Froch did. And Froch lost the last 3 rounds of that fight. I'd argue that Ward's resume is about as good as Froch's, now, which is a testament to how badly this tournament is needed to get these guys fighting each other.
I'm indifferent to Froch at this point, he hasn't really impressed me , except for coming off the floor to stop Taylor. The Dirrell fight was just ugly , but no matter who was to blame , Froch looked terrible. So far , he looks like a guy with a lot of guts but not an overabundance of skill. Still, Dirrell came out of the encounter with Froch with more confidence and was pretty effective against Abraham. Maybe the experience with Dirrell improved Froch as well. For all those for Froch, and all those against, everything about Froch will be put in perspective by the tournements end. Of course, delusional fans and unreasonable haters won't budge, but any unbiased observer will soon see what all of the super six are made of.
I genuinely like the bloke. All the **** he spouts is just a persona he creates for boxing, its nothing like him
he has a awkard style, fighting with one hand low and other protecting one side of his head (he actually uses his shoulder to protect the other side of his chin) but is not a talentless boxer- he is a AM world championship medal winner and he has beaten enough good fighters in the pro game. his interviews are funny as hell and it is quite clear that he says what he says to hype himself up - Froch had to do everything the hard way to get recogonition, and in my eyes he has earnt it.
A lucky last minute knockout in a fight that he was losing and a gift decision. Sorry, that's not the stuff of legends. :nut
I think a lot of his 'arrogance' is tongue-in-cheek and him trying to be funny. I don't think he takes himself too seriously, certainly not as seriously as yous lot are making out (to compare his attitude to Mayweather is ridiculous). I also remember reading somewhere that he struggles with nerves and lack of confidence sometimes, so not everything is as it seems.
That's fine. I suggest you keep your eyes peeled then. Because to most fans is extremely arrogant with his ridiculous challenges to Calzaghe and his claims that he had dominated the fight again Dirrell and that he will retire Kessler. He's arrogant and he doesn't have the talent to back it up. Honestly, a decade ago he'd be in the Roy Jones bum of the month club.
Deciphering trash talk does not require a psychology degree, nor should it. Froch has an arrogant public persona, so that is how I perceive him. I don't find him witty, charming or the least bit intelligent
