Indeed, Williams could not even stand in the same room with a man who had a good left hook, without having an allergic reaction..
Carl had a great jab, nice movement, but that chin was the one thing that always hurt him.I could see him beating a Thomas, Page on a bad night, or maybe even Tubbs, but anyone with good power had him.
Carl 'The Truth' Williams, for me at least, will be best remembered as being later spoofed on the brilliant television show IN LIVING COLOR, with Jamie Foxx playing Carl 'The Tooth' Williams.
Carl was a nice fighter, somewhat overrated speed, great reach, but there was certain intangibles that always would hurt him.Probably should've stayed in the amateurs longer, but may have run into a roadblock if he had to face Biggs.Had no business losing to Weaver, his chin hurt him.
I still remember him taking apart a young Bert Cooper after Cooper had looked so impressive destroying Willie Dewitt.. Carl's chin clearly was his weakness.. Someone mentioned the fight vs Witherspoon if memory serves Carl got screwed there, seems like I remember it being a bad decision.. I also remember it being a terribly boring fight.. I feel as though Carl for sure could have been a "belt holder" had he been matched against the right guy his problem was he fought Holmes and then Tyson.. The Holmes fight was super close though..
his fight with Holmes overrrated him a bit. Then fights after he didn't come close to the expectations he set on giving Larry a good fight.
I have seen a video of him handling a very young Tyson somewhere, theres a clip of it below [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzUqYUPOX3g[/ame]
