Monzon's fights are all very similar. Kind of slow, systematic beatdowns. You really can't go wrong. But he was better in my opinion before his old lady shot him in the shoulder. My favorites are Benvenuti I & II, Griffith II, and Briscoe II.
He's probably a little past best against Valdez, but they're good viewing also.

He sounds like a smart fighter though he could be crude at times. I'll give him a try and start of with Licata, Napoles, and then the Griffith fights in that order.

Lol and people pick on Hopkins for fighting smaller men.

If Monzon was a huge MW, I'd like to know what people call Pavlik, Miranda, Hopkins etc.

Monzon definitely doesn't outdo Hagler in terms of ring smarts.

Monzon fought very well off the back foot.

Tony Zale and Kelly Pavlik are two of the BIGGEST mothers ever to fight at 160, besides Iran Barkley and Eddie Miranda... NO **** THERE!

Yeah they do but I usually hear people pick on Hopkins for that in the General.

Yea but same day weigh ins, diuretics, saunas, nutrition played their part there. Pavlik/Miranda probably don't make 160lbs in 1970

I actually think Monzon's smoking helped him stay very lean for a fighter back then

I gave him a try but I just don't like his style. It wasn't very pleasing I don't know if I'm going to finish watching him lol. I take nothing away from him as a boxer he's an HOF'er, ATG, and one of the best MW's ever but his style is not my glass of soda. Canizales, I can watch he had a beautiful style nice footwork & gorgeous combinations.

I'm sure Monzon was also whiffing some lines of good Coke back then during his off time as well... The dude was a playboy.... He had money, broads, cool pad and cars.... Cheers...

Monzon was always in incredible condition though, despite his somewhat non-chalant approach to training. I wouldn't doubt that he could have fought at 175, looking at his frame, but obviously he was smart enough to realize where he was at his most effective.

Here is the IBRO's top 20 list. I more or less agree with it. None of Monzon's opponents made the cut. I would move Ketchel down a few spots, Hagler up a few spots, Mozon down a few spots, and I'm not even sure if I would list Flowers.

Like I said numerous times already: I don´t do no lists anymore.

But for you some names coming to my mind when thinking about the mw division in context of its history. In no order.

    Monzon
    Robinson
    Tiger
    Hagler
    Hopkins
    Greb
    Giardello
    Benvenuti
    Fitzsimmons
    LaMotta
    Ryan
    Graziano
    Zale
    Cerdan
    Ketchel
    Griffith
    Walker
    Klaus
    M. Gibbons
    Steele
    Valdez
    Olson
    Fullmer
    H. Williams
    Burley
    Flowers
    Jones Jr.
    Darcy
    Thil
    O'Dowd
    McCoy

Those two probably don´t belong there but are amony my favourites:
    Scholz
    Humez

    Hagler beats Monzon
    Robinson beats Monzon
Hearns gives him a hard time
Leonard gives him a hard time
    Greb could beat him
Fitzsimmons could give him a hard time
