I have followed his career since Nov 7 1970 when he won the title from Nino Benvenuti, saw all of his televised fights. I even ran into hin in person while attending the Sugar Ray Leonard vs Daniel Gonzales fight on March 24 1979. I do not like how his life ended, I do not believe in violence towards women but to me he was a very great fighter that did what no other middleweight did, retire as champion after 14 successful title defenses, Hagler as talented as he was could not do it, too many boo hoo's about his last fight with Sugar Ray Leonard, Carlos fought until he was almost 35, still was winning. Jones to me talks too much, fast, flashy but another imitator of Muhammad Ali. Monzon had his own style, did not talk much. His fist did the talking in the ring. But I am still sticking to my guns about Carlos as a champion, he was great.

To me he was a flash in the pan loudmouth, another imitator of the great Muhammad Ali, not impressed at all, but to each their own.

I mean your entitled to your opinion, but my criteria for flash in a pan is someone like Buster Douglas. Someone who had a 1 good win then disappeared.

Not someone like Roy Jones who was at the top for a decade or so. If your not a fan of him that's fine, I wasn't a lover of his personality either
But I did enjoy watching him fight.

But flash in a pan is not something I would associate with Roy Jones.

Richard, you're not addressing the point @Dynamicpuncher made that Jones Jnr was no 'flash in the pan'. The Ring magazine had him rated no lower than #3 lb for lb in the world from 1994 through to 2004. Ten years! That's Monzon's reign as middleweight champ plus 50% again, time spent fighting, and easily beating, bigger men. You can count on the fingers of your hands the amount of fighters who have spent a decade as one of the three best fighters around lb for lb and it's not like the 90s was devoid of some top talent.

Who Roy fought at 50 is irrelevant to the discussion. As bad as it was, it compares extremely favourably to who Monzon was fighting at much the same age.

While I respect your opinion, what did Jones do in his last decade to stay in the public eye?, he lost to Antonio Tarver, lost to Glen Johnson who has no speed, the DQ against Montell Griffith like all fighters including Monzon he had his flaws, Jones did not part the Red Sea or something like that. Then as an older fighter fights an elder Mike Tyson, Jones belongs in a circus. Lol.

Too bad that many of you are not diehard fans, Carlos Monzon fought the best challengers available, even the mandatory ones. Funny when I post it is irrelevant, but when others post it is not. I researched many of the opponents that Carlos fought, many names I had not heard of, but I feel that it does and does not matter who you fight, you can only fight fighters that are put in front of you. Calling out fighters belongs in the WWE. But different strokes for different folks. Am I supposed to be a debater?, that is above my pay grade, and I do not vote or follow politics. Take care.

How immature you are, that post fits you Jones fanboys, Ha, Ha. Is it Jones smile that turns you on? or is it his big mouth fanboy? Is it the way Jones looks into the camera at you, batting his eyes. Is that Jones in Drag? I know, you are a follower. I am done conversing with you low life, F-Off. I am out of here.

Yes but i'm primarily talking about Roy Jones from 1994 to 2004, Roy Jones was at the top for a decade. As another poster pointed out, how many fighters can you name that were rated that high for a decade ? i'm just making the point that your calling Roy Jones a flash in the pan. And i don't think that's correct term i would use for a fighter that was 50-1 and rated top 3 P4P for a decade.

If Roy Jones had retired at the same age as Carlos Monzon did he would of been 50-1, with virtually no competitive fights outside of the first Montel Griffin fight which is extremely impressive in my book.

You keep your opinion and I will keep mine, no one can convince me to follow another loudmouth, not in the cards. I do not have to waste my time on garbage like this anymore, I have a life outside of this site, unlike many others. I do not care about Roy Jones Jr or anyone here except a few. Take Care.

One last thing then i'm done with this topic, not because of you but because i feel like i haven't really got much else to say on the matter. You are a Carlos Monzon fan and you were around during that period to watch his fights at the time, all credit to you and i'm not trying to change your opinion. My opinion from watching both fighters is that Roy Jones would be far too fast for Monzon, but it was nice to share some thoughts with you on the matter take care also.

You would be angry too if others were trying their best to change your mind, others cannot leave posters to believe what they want, that is the problem, Nice people Finish Last, this site has proven that statement. I am sure you will understand some day, the nastier posters do not have to accept this. I tried to be just honest and human. I do not need this, no man has to put up with others trying to brain wash him in writing or in person, be careful with the classless ones here. Take Care.

This is brilliant. I thought I loved this song and hadn't realised just how naff the whole thing was. Seeing it how it was hasn't changed my opinion of the song - loved it as a kid when my dad had best of Bee Gees in the car - but I'm just a bit less keen to ever admit that now.

I get why you posted it and the spirit it was intended in. That it's gone down like a cup of cold baby sick reflects on those who have made this quite an angry, divisive thread albeit one in which the vitriol has been one-way. Fair play for trying to dampen it down but there's a bit of 'likes to dish it out but less keen on any incoming' going on in this thread. Not the finest hour for a few of us.

PS: Samantha Sang. Wow. She may have been the ugliest Bee Gee of all and with those brothers you don't say that lightly. Just hope she's not the mother of @young griffo @Journeyman1992 or one of the Aussies.

And I really hope she's not the wife of @JohnThomas1.
