Carlos Ortiz interviews

One of the boxers I am not well schooled on is Duilio Loi....How good was he to be able to beat Ortiz twice (some say thrice)?

 

I don't know much of the past as I've just begun to make research on past fighters. I started with Ortiz, he was an-around fighter, and a genius on the ring.

In the first fight it's said Loi deserved the decision, but it was ridiciolously close. The other two fights were also very close, some argue all three fights could've gone either way.

Personally I think Loi deserved all three decisions, but Loi is incredible, especially his speed, and his intelligence easily matches (maybe suprasses) that of Carlos Ortiz, which I rank highly.

He's pretty light-footed, but speed kills.

And then shamelessly avoided Jose Napoles right?

You'd think he'd just take that fight at the drop of a hat....

 

And how would he do that?

 

While I don't personally agree.....You are so in love w/ Duran that you won't even listen to a discussion about any possibility of that happening by anyone!

 

I'm not sure but I think it might involve punching.

 

Thanks for that Tin Ribs.Remember Ortiz,must have been a great fighter to beat Dave Charnley in GB,although foreign fighters did get a fair shake in those days.I think he was beaten by Father Time when Laguna got to him,although himself a top fighter.Dont think a peak Ortiz avoids anyone,by the way.Never heard of the book,could anyone elaborate?Incidentally,have had the same experience as TR regarding books.The best way to never see one again is to lend it out.

 

His win over Charnley gets overlooked imo. Dave was badly managed when you look back; I doubt his team took Ortiz seriously enough.

Father Time was certainly getting to Carlos by the time of the Teo Cruz defeat; I think it was all the drinking, gambling and shagging that undid him in the build-up to Laguna I. It certainly re-lit the fire under his arse afterwards when you look at the winning streak that followed: Laguna x2, Bizzarro, Ramos x2, Locche (dodgy draw) and Elorde.

Re: the book, the consensus seems to be that it's a worthy read if you can tolerate the anti-modern bias and opinionated attitude. I think I'll buy it - again - for Christmas and lock it in the safe this time.
