I think you're going a little overboard here. Chavez was nowhere near his peak when he faced Randall, and didn't fight with the same style or tenacity a peak Lightweight Chavez did. Also, you seem to forget that the man in my avatar faced Chavez at one point as well when you consider Ortiz to be better than anyone Chavez fought. I've heard Manassa's arguments as to why Buchanan beats Chavez as well, but none of them have convinced me. Chavez by UD against Buchanan, I'll argue that. And interesting that you have him losing by KO to Ortiz Luigi, how do you justify that?
To follow up on what I just posted, I am not a Chavez hater, as some of his unimaginative supporters might allege, but really, who on Chavez' resume in any way compares to Carlo Ortiz? Edwin Rosario? A seriously flawed bomber who couldn't ever deal with being pressured. Hector Camacho? A guy without the guts to really commit himself to combat after being scared by the previously mentioned Rosario. Meldrick Taylor was a good fighter with those fast hands of his, but not of the quality of Carlos Ortiz by a long shot. Ortiz had a better chin and recuperative powers than Rosario and Taylor and more balls and resourcefulness than Camacho. As I said, a balanced blend of boxer and puncher, that's what Ortiz had going for him, and that's more than what Chavez had to deal with than with all his challengers rolled into one. Chavez was great in running over the guys that he met, but Ortiz would have had too much savvy and good old boxing generalship for him. The unanimous decision would have gone to Carlos Ortiz.
No question Chavez's resume doesn't compare to Ortiz's, nor does Chavez have anyone on his resume(that he beat anyways) that compares to Ortiz, but that doesn't mean he wasn't capable of winning. It's about 50/50 for me, for the reasons outlined in my first two posts. If I had to, I might slightly favor Ortiz by Decision.
Actually Sweet Pea, I don't think Ortiz would stop Chavez. I was referring to Ortiz' ability to end a fight with power, as well as his ability to go for a decision over 15 rounds. I think Ortiz would have won a 15 round decision, and it wouldn't have been easy, I'll grant you. And the refernce to Randall, again, was not to imply that Randall beat Chavez at his peak, but that Ortiz would have used similar tactics that Randall used, only better AND in Chavez' heyday.
Carlos strength and punching power would keep Chavez at bay. Chavez would try and box a bit more. Ortiz is the better boxer, this is the key. Chavez would not be pressuring or bulling Ortiz around the ring so he would have to box and Chavez is at the disadvantage in a boxing match with Ortiz. Close Points win for Ortiz in a 15 rounder.
