Andy Price was a hot and cold fighter but at his best was top solid contender and i do remember him also being a highly respected amatuer trainer in the Los Angeles area, he also had 90s fringe mw contender Dwain Tiger Williams.... He was a good boxer who punch was bigger than his record indicated, he beat 2 hof in Cuevas and Palomino.
Do you have this fight complete? It was indeed a war but my copy has several rounds missing. Would love to see the whole fight.
No but it was on youtube. It's not there now or I can't find it. sorry my mistake, i was just talking about the palomino green fight and forgot this was the Andy price thread.
I think it was a classic case of just getting caught early, it happens. He was a better fighter than that.
Very interesting that Palomino describes Price as a good puncher and that Andy claims he almost stopped Carlos. Records can be extremely deceiving with respect to power (see Turnbow, Mel), and Price would seem to fall into that category based on what Palomino suggests. (I'd like to know what Cuevas has to say about him.)
cheers mate.i'm a big fan of his though i didn't know goins was such a big puncher.i knew how hard muniz was though:good
I saw the Carlos Palomino vs. Davey Boy Green fight. It was broadcast to a California TV Network on a Tuesday Night (Tuesday Night Fights) I was a big Carlos Palomino fan, but he had lost almost every round up to the Knock-out. Davey Boy was out-boxing him, and out-muscling him. Carlos was on the defensive the entire fight. Davey Boy was easily up 8-2-0 in rounds. Carlos was so far behind on the score-cards, the only way he could win, was by a Knock-out,,,,,,,,which he did, KO 11.
boy green had just told palomino he couldn't punch.carlos demonstrated he could.at that time boy green was a hard hard man, just not hard enough
Davey 'Boy' Green,,, was really a 140 lb. Light Welterweight. Probably would have made some noise in that division, if he could have stayed at 140 lb. weight.
I think anything Palomino says has to be be given tremendous weight. That guy was a great fighter. His fight with Benitez was boxing at the highest level.
Some of 'King Carlos' early battles,,,,, 11/16/72,,, Draw 4,,,Ted Liggett (11-9-0) Carlos (2-0-0) takes on a bigger fighter in Liggett. Ted Liggett knocks down Carlos, in a 4-round non-stop brawl. 3/29/73,,,, W Dec 6,,,Lalo Barriente (5-3-1) Carlos (5-0-1) out-punches a tough Barriente, after getting rocked in Rounds 2 and 3. 5/4/74,,,, W Dec 8,, David Arellano I (27-15-0) Carlos (7-0-1) goes all-out after falling behind in the first half of the fight, to squeak out a razor-thin decision over an experienced Arellano. (Disputed decision) 6/14/74,,, KO 9 ,,, David Arellano (27-16-1) Carlos (9-0-1) fights Arellano in a re-match. Again, Carlos falls behind, but starts ripping heavy body shots in the second half, and wears the tough Arellano down.
