This is a really close fight with neither fighter imposing his will on the other IMO. I had Pintor winning a close one. By no means was it a robbery.
This ranks for me as one of the biggest robberies of all time as far as im concerned, bigger than Chavez v Whitaker, bigger than Holyfield v Lewis, bigger than Sturm v De La Hoya .. I've watched this fight twice and its not even close, Zarate wins this by at least 7 rounds. Im not in anyway biased as Pintor is one of my favourite fighters who went out on his shield against Gomez in one of the greatest fights of all time. But im not surprised Zarate was so pissed about this decision. It is the biggest robbery, and the most obvious corrupt decision of the last 35 years .... Consider the official scores .. 1 judge had it - 143 - 142 Pintor 1 judge had it - 143 - 142 Pintor 1 judge had it - 145 - 133 Zarate Now that is some crazy scoring right there and while i concede that i have it a little closer than the guy who gave it by 12 points to Zarate, he was far closer than the other 2 guys who were clearly bought off .. A total disgrace to boxing and only the most fanatical Lupe Pintor supporter can suggest he won .... Biggest robbery ive ever seen, bar none. Everyone needs to check out this fight to see boxing corruption at its most obvious !!
145-133! That works out something like 5 rounds at 10-9 for Pintor and 10 rounds for Zarate..... 3 at 10-9 and 7 at 10-8. I haven't watched it but did Zarate win his rounds clearer than Pintor?
Though I haven't heard a whole lot of people talk about this fight, you're the first person I've seen with a scorecard that wide for Zarate. Even the people that do regard this as a robbery usually end up giving cards for Zarate by the margin of 2 or 3 points. 7 is beyond the pale of reasonableness. I think it's pretty clear who the biased judge was here, or if not biased, flat out incompetent; and that was the assclown that had Zarate up by 12 points. A score like 145-133 doesn't even make sense in this fight. I can't see how this fight could be taken as anything but close. The only way I can intelligently make sense of you thinking it was such a robbery is if you are the type of scorer that suggests that a challenger must clearly win a round to take it otherwise the champion gets the round - an erroneous method of scoring. Al, regarding your question, there were very few clear rounds in the whole fight as I saw it. Zarate perhaps won a few more clearly than Pintor did, but not enough to even make palitable a scorecard like the guy that had 145-133. That looks like the scorecard of a guy who decided to give the few clear rounds in the fight all 10-8's and called all the other close ones 10-9. As for GPater's question of whether it was a good fight. It was of a high standard, but lacking in action and drama. Both seemed somewhat reluctant to let it all hang out. I think Zarate overreacted by spitting the dummy as he did. Perhaps he was unlucky to lose the title, but it was arguable, and he had himself to blame really for letting it slip through his fingers.

I had a draw or Pintor by a point. Zarate got off to a great start but Pintor had pretty much evened things up by the end of the 12th. I've heard that Zarate might have been drained by having to drop back down from featherweight in four weeks. That would explain why he faded.
I watched the bout live on TV. I remember wanting to leaving the house not even wanting to wait for the decision I thought it was that one sided. Once announced my jaw and that of my brother dropped to our chest. At the time I thought it was the worst decision I had ever seen.
