Not the most flattering picture, lean but not really that fragile looking. Surprisingly big legs.

Alot of the older timers looked bigger than their stats. Elmer Ray at 6'2" and only 190 looked as massive as any 220 lber.

Bonavena and Machen are two other guys that looked massive despite their listed stats.

 

I clicked on the link and it took to me to a page that asked me to be redirected or something. But I'll take your word for it that he might have looked ok in that pic.

 

eh, just google Marciano Vingo. Vingo is busted up and going down, but doesn't look like the beanpole his stats suggest.

His hamstrings look a bit meaty, but honestly from that angle and picture quality its hard to get any sort of accurate gauge has to how his physique genuinely looked. It was what it was.

I think he was certainly lean but given his stats, expecting someone that looked like Fonfara or Welter Hearns.

Before boxrec or somebody dug up the official weigh in and cemented it across the net, I remember people used to assume Vingo was over 200, probably based off the pictures and little film.

Vingo laid out in bad shape, again, still looks to have big legs for a tall 189 lb guy.

At 189lbs and being 6'4" ,he certainly was no
bulky guy.

Marciano was only 180lbs for this fight, he looks as ripped as he can be.

Christ he looks like something out of a Zombie film in that photo.

 

Bonavena was the same height as Rocky but 20lbs heavier.

 

Reading articles on that, the corner was trying to stop it in the 6th, but a New York rule prevented them from entering the ring. I don't know...they probably should have just said "F the rules" and jumped in there.

 

In hindsight that certainly seems like it would have been the right thing to do.

The NYC rule forbade the traditional throwing of a towel in the ring by the corner, Jackie Levine ,Vingo's manager said he would have done so if the rules permitted it.
Entering the ring by anyone other than the fighters and the referee during a round has of course always been illegal and subject to a DSQ.
Joe Louis was rather fortunate in one of the Buddy Baer fights when a friend prematurely climbed through the ropes and the referee chose to ignore it..

 

Ratliff seems to have been downgraded to 6'4" on the net. I can buy him and Vingo being the same height and weight.
