I heard he was down in sparring as well.

Well I cant say the latest one that has me worried about my KO money. Plus I am sure as people say that Rigo never looks like he gives a fúck but I mean this guy has been casual.

In sparring I heard that Douda Sow, who is a big lightweight and beat Ugas in the Olympics to take silver, had him down and Rigo got up and smashed Sow out of the ring later and Sow fecked off back to France instead of finishing the week out.

ts going to be a huge night for Limerick’s latest sporting hero Willie Casey when he faces his biggest challenge yet against unbeaten Guillermo Rigondeaux at the Citywest convention centre. On offer for the winner is the WBA world bantam weight championship so there is a lot at stake.

29 year old Casey is the current EBU Champion having defeated Paul Hyland in Limerick in November and in 11 fights remains unbeaten with 7 knock outs. Casey’s big break came when he replaced the injured Wayne McCullough in Prizefighter and beat Mark Moran, Josh Wale and Paul McElhinney to win the tournament. Casey might not have the technical ability of other fighters but he packs a big punch and is a brawler who if gets on top of his opponent can make life very difficult.

At a year older, Cuban born Rigondeaux has good pedigree; he is a 7 time Cuban national champion and can proudly boast to be the holder of gold medals from the 2000 and 2004 Olympics as well as two world championships. He turned professional in 2009 upon moving to the USA and is now based out of Miami.

In 7 professional fights he is unbeaten; his move recent victory came over Oscar Cordoba, who many will remember was defeated by Bernard Dunne. That fight saw Guillermo knocked to the canvas in the 6th round but he recovered to win the fight on a split decision.

Rigondeaux is trained by former boxer Ronnie Shields who has trained a string of world champions including Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson amongst others. While Casey can bank on some strong home support tonight with the added bonus that this will be his first professional fight outside of America and Mexico for Rigondeaux don’t count on Casey having it his own way. As part of his build up for the fight, Rigondeaux spent some time in Limerick training at the St Francis club and sparred with Irish female fighting sensation Katie Taylor.

There wasn’t much between them in the weigh in with Casey edging it 55kg to 54.9kg and if he can maintain that edge tonight then Ireland will have a new boxing World Champion.
