The sound is bloody terrible though, they need to sort out some external mics. Filming in HD would make no difference to the quality of video YouTube sends to a phone, that always gets tailored to your connection. I thought Kugan said it's down to the ridiculously long upload times HD video has - their films would be delayed too much.
Appreciate the effort they put in- but the two things in bold can be easily rectified- reasonable top mics/ lapel mics will increase their production value a lot and a five minute HD video can be compressed right down so that uploads don't take forever and the conversion doesn't take long either.
I enjoy IFL's coverage and think they do a great job giving us fans in the US great info on the UK's happening. The audio is annoying though.:good
I've seen the big one filming with a DSLR camera around his gregory with a small shotgun mic attached to the top so maybe that's where the poor sound quality comes from? I think it's good enough for what their videos are about. Will be interesting to see how they got on with these presenting gigs. For one they'll have to curb the naughty words when on other peoples' channels. Looking forward to seeing one of these shows now.
It depends. Five minutes in 1080p can be compressed to 720p in about three or four minutes with a decent laptop. That would reduce the MB size from around 500MB to 220ish. Using a mobile broadband stick, depending on signal, that might take five to ten minutes to upload. iFL use Canon 650d DSLRs with a Rode Video mic mounted on the top. This works perfectly well in my opinion. I think the reason they use this set up is because it's portable. Using wired mics means having to lug a tripod around, which just isn't feasible when they want to get as many interviews as possible.
