Catchweights have been around for at least a century, maybe longer. You never hear the fighters complain about them. Only the fans. If the fighters agree, why should anyone else care?

They recently just agreed to it after the Canelo fight. Heck they even didn't realized that Mayweather-JMM was supposed to be a CW fight but only JMM honored it.
