You keep saying 19 month layoff. It's only a 16 month layoff.

If Canelo Ks Mello TFO that would be extraordinary. Mell's never come close to being stopped so that would be a monumental result for Canelo. I think it's possible but it's gonna tell a pefectly timed shot, maybe a body shot.

Not saying he needs to fight the same as Bivol, just use some of the tactics Bivol used. Jab and good foot work went a long way to subdue Canelo. Charlo is more than capable to work behind the jab. The question is, can he employ good enough footwork to keep his jab in range, yet Canelo out of range. Something Bivol did very well. Again, Charlo ain't Bivol. At minimum, we will see how far apart Charlo and Bivol are in that area.

You're right, Bivol did show a blueprint, but the difference is Charlo can punch. So yes he should do a lot of what Bivol did, but then mix in some power shots as well. Mell should fight the way he fought in the Castaño rematch, in that match he not only worked behind the jab but he used a lot of lateral movement. We've never really seen someone use that kind of lateral movement against Canelo. I mean Lara was constantly on the move, but it wasn't the same kind of movement as Jermell uses. And Lara can't punch like Jermell so it was a completely different type of movement and strategy than what Jermell could employ.

When we talk about latearl movement, Jermell actually does that literally, he moves directly left and right and can change directions rapidly. That kind of herky jerky lateral movement caused Castaño all kinds of problems and I think he should try that again. So yes Bivol has good footwork but Jermell's footwork is different, not as smooth or as flowing, but he has quick reflex feet, he can get in and out of danger with his feet more than anyone else I can remember Canelo fighting. So yes I agree he should do a lot of what Bivol did but I also think Jermell possesses skills that Bivol doesn't have. Like Bivol only throws jabs and straights, Jermell throws uppercuts, hooks, looping punches from crazy angle, he has faster feet, ability to move quickly out of range then turn on a dime, etc.

The only issue I see for Mell is his lack of head movement. If you're not gonna give Canelo head movement then he has to use his quick feet to avoid shots.

Footwork is important in this one for sure.

Back tracking? Here's my view - Charlo has a chance, but I'm not convinced he'll win. It'll depend on what happens during the match. I'm not a flat earther but I find the topic fascinating and have challenged globies in the past about their earth related beliefs.

Charlo don't hit harder than Bivol. Bivol is bigger and stronger than Mell and likely hits much harder. Charlo is a pretty good jr middleweight puncher and would likely hold his own at middleweight but its a stretch to rate him as a puncher at 168lbs. Bivol is an underrated puncher at light heavyweight. He was being touted as a puncher early in his career. You put Mell in there with Bivol and he may not win a round and would likely be stopped. Bivol would mop the floor with Mell. Just trying to put things in perspective.

Anyone who thinks Charlo hits harder than Bivol needs their head examined.

I can see Charlo hanging in for the 12th but I dont think it will be a close affair

It's such a gimmicky fight anyhow
It's the kind of thing Vince Russo would book in wrestling

    It’s a straight business move for $ure
Stacking the deck in favor of Nelo
Milking the 1st 2 fights on the 3 fight deal
While building up Benevidez vs Canelo for the final fight on contract.
    All hail Al Haymon.

Looking at them now here is my observation

Canelo used to be a weight bully but looks like he has found his ceiling

Charlo looks like he is still a weight bully judging by his size

Charlo looks significantly bigger and looks like walks around at a higher weight too so he won't be 'undersized' at all.

Charlo has more skills but Canelo has more patience and better skills and punch selections

Charlo starts out fast and catches Canelo regularly before Canelo starts landing the harder single shots and slowing Charlo down before TKOing him very late.

Canelo will give the fans a good show. I actually think Charlo will steal a round or two early on with his speed.

Canelo by brutal KO before the 9th round and then he calls out Shields for undisputed vs undisputed PART II
