I don't really know much about Charr, if he's any good he'll stop Toney. Can he punch? I know he was scheduled to fight David Haye, just so I can get a gauge on his level of ability, how was that one likely to go had it happened?

It's really terrible that James Toney is still fighting, does he actually have to pass medicals? Because if he does, I can't believe he is getting the all clear, it's more than obvious this man is damaged from his long career. It is a real struggle to understand what he is saying now.

Shot doesn't even cover where Toney is at now, he is a shell and he's going to get hurt. The fact his all time great chin seems to still be intact, somehow, makes it even worse because he's going to end up taking more shots because of that.

It sucks watching ATGs go out like this. Toney at his best was such a master. I don't wanna see him fight anymore though.
Charr isn't that good but obviously Toney is COMPLETELY past it. 10 years ago Lights Out would've beaten Charr like a dog.

Toney is a mess now, what does Toney not being stopped in 80 fights mean when he is at his worst ever now? And I never said knocked clean out. If you are a top heavyweight you should dominate this version of Toney to the point a referee, or his corner pulls him out. He is done and just got beat by some clown in Prizefighter who kept shouting "Woo!!".

You really don't think a genuinely good heavyweight - I'm talking relative to world level here - should be able to force a stoppage against this James Toney?

toney has been shot for 5 years now.... and even as shot as he is, no clown like Charr will come close to stopping him. Have you ever seen a Charr fight? he is awful. Sooner or later if Toney keeps fighting, someone could eventually catch him or give him a beat down....but it wont be a guy like Charr

Don't know why people are so surprised that he's fighting a shot Toney. This is the level of fighter that Charr has been fighting and beating regularly. He's never fought another contender or beaten anyone who was close to world class.

I don't understand this weird phenomenon of a fighter suddenly being regarded as world class or a genuine contender just because a Klitschko randomly picks some undefeated guy with a padded record and beats the hell out of them.

Charr even in this weak era is not top 10, or even top 15, he might just edge inside the top 20 but we really don't know for sure he's never beaten anyone I'd regard as a top 20 fighter.

Guys like Charr, Wach and Pianeta were just some random undefeated prospect that got a lucky title shot and lost. They really haven't proven themselves beyond being at a prospect level. So people shouldn't expect them to step up and fight genuine contenders because that would be a level or 2 above what they have fought at except for the lucky title shot.

Even the severely limited Charr should be able beat a shot to hell Toney.

I don't think anyone is suggesting Charr will one-hit Toney and knock him out cold for a ten count. That is an outlandish scenario.

However, for the physically strong and heavily aggressive Charr to bludgeon Toney with sloppy chopping shots on the back of the head while Toney is shelling up in front of him, prompting the referee to wave it off, probably to a chorus of boos? Not so outlandish...in fact it's very easy to envision that happening. All it would take is Charr visibly rocking Toney once and then jumping on him with a flurry of followup - whether or not anything in the flurry actually landed - and some refs might opt to save the old man from any more. If you think Charr rocking Toney is far-fetched, remember that Jason freaking Gavern, Bobby freaking Gunn and Matthew freaking Greer each managed the feat.

    Wrong.

Bakhtov, Saglam, Airich, Klitschko (obviously :yep), Bidenko, and even Nascimento are a full level above the current Toney. (who honestly thinking back deserved the semifinal nod over Gavern, but probably wouldn't have beaten Sprott on the night and bottom line, still looked abysmal)

The only person Charr has fought as bad as current Toney since Uysal back in 2011 is Mazikin.

I haven't seen Charr fight, no. I'm glad, for Toney's sake then that he isn't very good.

Your assessment there is spot-on, but those being cynical about Toney are not under-crediting him. He sucks now, and doesn't fit in the HW picture anywhere in the top forty, let alone ten. I'm actually a James Toney fan from back in the day, and it pisses me off to see him humiliating himself like this year after year. So there is no spew of hate here, and I'd be overjoyed if he somehow pulled off a miracle here. It won't happen. He has been reduced from Great to garbage, for a long time now. I had hoped the UFC venture would have been the final embarrassment but no, he is still pissing all over his own legacy and his fans' desire to see him quit with some dignity. He honestly should have quit after letting Peter outbox him in their rematch. Everything since has been cringe-worthy.

I strongly disagree. Who is Nascimento? Saglam is not better than Toney and he was able to land some punches on Charr as well. Toney won by stoppage against Bobby Gunn last year, I don't think there is a big difference between Saglam, Airich, Bidenko, Nascimento (again, who?) and Gunn.

Ofcourse Charr is the favorite here, but I give Toney at least 30% chance to win this bout. No doubt he will last until the end.

 Gunn is a tomato can in gloved boxing.

Yes, Saglam is better than Toney. I don't like it but it's true. Saglam isn't better than the Toney that beat Booker, Ruiz, Guinn, and got robbed in Peter I - but he is significantly better than Toney now. You really need to let go of the idea of Toney being even remotely world class. He was, for many years. He was pound for pound elite for many years. In 2007 he was no longer; he was by then a journeyman and has regressed more and more ever since. He is an extremely poor heavyweight right now.

    Stop clinging to the past.

Do you rate Jones at cruiser? ...because you shouldn't. And Jones is considerably less shot than Toney and is 10x the fighter at cruiser right now that Toney is at HW.

Do you really think that Jones is less shot than Toney at this moment? At heavyweight I would go with Toney if this fight happens. Jones JR looked awful last fight. I don't think Toney is worldclass anymore. However, he is better than Saglam (look at his record). Both Gunn and Saglam are tomato cans. Toney at 260 pounds against Browne was very poor, yet he was able to win several rounds. At 220 pounds he can be more than a journeyman (not a contender anymore, just a level below).
