Roy would shutout Toney easy if they fought today, I think I had him up Lebedev pre KO. I've not seen Toney since the Lebedev fight, going by that Charr stops him, his skills are diminished, Charr is a huge guy who fights like a bully, he's got a good jab, uppercut and throws a lethal body shot, not to mention a shoulder roll of his own. :yep It should really be Charr vs Kevin Johnson who is on the same card.
It would be quite the achievement if Charr is able to retire all 3 of Vitali, Haye and Toney within the last year or so.
Charr could potentially stop the bout early with one of his brutal left hooks to the body. I see Toney quitting early.
Yes, considerably - and Jones is shot. Now you are beginning to get the picture. Jones is very much a shot fighter - on that we agree. Toney is further gone. Capicé? OK. :? ...so? Completely irrelevant. Apples to apples, please. Jones hasn't fought at HW since the one time, against Ruiz. Toney has been camping his fat ass out in the division for a decade. Right now, pound for pound (being as they compete in different weight classes), Jones has more of his skills and reflexes intact at cruiser than does Toney at heavy. That simply. Jones looked poor against Glazewski. He probably shouldn't have even gotten the nod. He still looked a hell of a lot better than has Toney on any night since Peter I. Good, so you're not totally deluded. Oh. Well, it turns out you're still pretty deluded. :verysad I see it. Not terribly impressive. Look at footage of Saglam, and compare it with Toney. It hurts me too, placing a great like Toney below a guy like Saglam - who is only so-so and whose career highlights came in losses where he was gamer than expected - but that is where it stands. This is what happens when greats overstay their welcome. It happens to all the best. Holyfield almost got KTFO by Sherman Williams, FFS. Greats who stick around end up tarnishing their legacies and end up picking up embarrassing losses and end up being pathetic shells of themselves and not even in the top 100 of whatever division they find themselves in. It sucks, but it happens...and it's exactly what has happened with Toney. Wrong. Gunn is; Saglam isn't. The fact that you can't distinguish them clearly being on separate levels is disturbing. Neither has beaten anyone of any renown, but Saglam at least has been competitive with a few top rated guys. Gunn hasn't. Plus, Saglam's best actual victory - Zeller - while not terrific, beats the **** out of Gunn's. (shot to bits Landberg who even in his prime was a super middleweight journeyman) Gunn is a bleeder and a punching bag, the very definition of a tomato can. Saglam isn't. Great, you're not delusional... ...never mind. :-( Several? Please, tell me which ones. No. Even the 'journeyman' tag is being kind to James at this point. He is bordering on straight-up bum status...regardless of his weight. He was a level below contender when he let Sam Peter outbox him in 2007. He is far worse now.
Clearly you are underrating Toney at this stage. Toney did win against Gavern. He also fought evenly with Brown for the first 8 rounds with 250 pound. If you watched these fights objectively you would know better. Jones is shot to pieces, how many times was he knocked out?Please... The reasonable pick here is simply Charr by decision. At 45, Toney doe not have the workrate anymore.
... Hmm. ESB's heavyweight hero makes his long awaited return against James F'ing Toney? Get that Vitali rematch, Charr, get it!
Objectively? Are you suggesting I was rooting for Gavern and/or Browne? Because I don't give a **** about either of them. As previously stated, I am (was) a fan of James Toney (the real James Toney, the master of pocket slickness, the man who fought/ate his way from middleweight through heavyweight, right up through Peter I) Deserving the nod by just shading rounds in a 3-rounder with Jason Gavern is a bad look. So is losing most of the rounds to an entirely too respectful Lucas Browne. Objectively, Toney looked **** in both of those fights, a D+ grade heavyweight at best.
why? so he can bleed all over the place again. his fat a$$ doesnt deserve another shot after that pathetic performance
My dream fight for 2014 would be Charr vs. Chisora. That would be epic, and style-wise it's a perfect matchup. Two crude trash-talking brawlers. Germany vs. England. Ah this has FOTY written all over it.
Certainly Gavern barely landed a clean punch against Toney in the entire fight. Toney proved to me in the the prizefighter that he can defend himself , no way Charr will be able to stop him!
